Black River Stages -- A Quick History

Most of you know Greg Healey and Keith Kreisler as long time US Rally competitors. If you are new to US rallying, both Greg and Keith have been competing since 1989. Greg used to organize the Sand Hills Sand Blast rallies in Cheraw, South Carolina.

Greg moved back to New York after several years of living in South Carolina and Keith had just relocated to Clifton Park, New York at about the same time. Both Greg and Keith felt it was time to try to bring performance rallying to New York State.

They set about doing this by offering the one thing a rally can bring to a small town, tourism dollars. After several phone calls to several different Chambers of Commerce and township boards, the township of Diana in Lewis County agreed to try this 'rallying thing' out and see how it worked. We believe that it has worked out very well for all parties involved; the rally community, the township and their businesses.

Drawing on the experience of the same core group of people that bring you RallyRight and previously the Tiadaghton Forest Rally, Blue Mountain Region created a new event that has surpassed all of our expectations. We received a very nice surprise from the 1999 SCCA National Convention -- being named the 1999 SCCA ClubRally of the Year.

Greg and Keith started planning the first Black River Stages rally in May of 1998. They received permission for road use and put the event on in September of that same year. In theory, 1999 should have been a very simple just re-print the routes and go. But no! They found two more roads and wrote a whole new route.

We are hoping to do the same thing for 2000. Keep the things that you really enjoyed -- a very compact route, central service point, and last but not least, the fast and flowing roads of Lewis County, New York.

The Black River Stages rally will count toward the 2000 SCCA Northeast Division ClubRally Championship. Classes will comply with the SCCA ClubRally Rules.

There will be a prize fund awarded based on the number of entries. Prizes will be awarded in Open, GT, P, G2 and G5.

The stages will range in length from 5 to 8 miles and consist of gravel and sand based roads that are 1 to 1-1/2 lanes wide.

There will be a single service point where your service truck can be parked and left for the duration of the rally.

Entries will be based on date of postmark.
There will be no entries accepted that are postmarked before Sept 1, 2000.
There will be a 60 car limit.
Entry fee $325 before September 15 -- $375 thereafter.

Canadian funds will be accepted at par from legitimate Canadian competitors.

Once again our biggest problem is the lack of close hotel space, so you're on your own for that (See Lodging List). We will try to post several alternatives for lodging as they become available. The surrounding towns consist of Harrisville, Gouverneur, Crohgan, Carthage, Lowville, Cranberry Lake and Fine and are within 45 minutes driving time.

As always, WE NEED WORKERS!!! If you can’t run, how about coming out and giving us a hand working this rally. Help all of the new competitirs get a taste of what stage rallying is all about. The more workers we have, the easier the rally runs. All worker info should be submitted to Diane Houseal at the address below, or to signup online Click Here!
