After a three year hiatus, the Black River Stages Rally returns for 2006. The event will take place on October 6-8, 2006 in and around scenic Harrisville, New York. For those not familiar, Harrisville is located approx. 35 miles northeast of Watertown, NY. This year's event will be a round of the NASA Eastern States Rally Championship.

Greg Healey says, "I hope to bring the event back keeping the things that you really enjoyed from the past -- a very compact route, central service point, and last but not least, the fast and flowing roads of Lewis and St. Lawrence County, New York. We will be working hard to ensure that Black River will once again be a competitor friendly, low-key event similar to those that we have presented in the past."

UPDATE - October 6, 2006:

We've been here since yesterday and the roads are in great shape! The weather is forcast to be perfect and, with the field we have, the rally is looking to be a great day of competition on some of the best rally roads on the East Coast.

UPDATE - August 15, 2006:

We have set a tentative schedule for the weekend of October 6-7:

  • Registration and Tech Inspection will be at the Diana Town Hall, located on Route 812 N, from 2 - 10 PM on Friday, October 6th.
  • The licensing seminar will be at the Town Hall Friday evening at 8 PM.
  • The Town Hall is also where the single service area will be on Saturday. There will be absolutely NO alcohol consumption allowed at the Town Hall property. Our ability to hold the event depends on this being adhered to.
  • There will be a mandatory drivers' meeting prior to the event's start at the Park Ferme on Saturday morning.

Right now we're scheduled for 12 stages, 8 in daylight, 4 at night. We are in negotiation for more roads which may change those numbers, but any change will be for the better (more stage miles, less stages).

We're setting the entry fee at $500 US (Canadians at par) for the 61 stage miles we have now, which will include Jemba prepared route notes and entry into the awards party for you and your crew. If we are successful in adding stage miles, it may change the schedule slightly, but not the entry fee. Once we have a few more things in place, we will be able to begin accepting entries. If there are too few entries two weeks out from the event (September 23), we reserve the right to cancel. If there are enough entries, we'll have a prize fund. If there are too many entries (the limit is 50), we'll consider allowing everyone to run, based on road conditions, and have a bigger prize fund.

We're looking forward to this event returning to the schedule as much as many of you are. Thank you all for the response and support so far. Hopefully everyone who has expressed an interest in it can make it. Keep your fingers crossed for a late winter up there, and come back here soon for updates and the entry form.

Information for Spectators:

There will be two spectator locations only. The morning spectator area will be at a '90 Right over crest onto new road' on stages 1 and 3. This area is located south of Harrisville on the East side of Route 812. Cars will be able to be viewed here from 9:30 till about 11:30 AM.

The afternoon/evening spectator area will be located near the end of a dead-end stage called Jayville Road. You will need to drive in to this area, and once you're in, you cannot leave until non-rally traffic is allowed on the road. Since this dead-end is likely to be run twice, we should be able to accommodate people coming to or leaving the area between runs. IF it is run twice, you will need to be at the spectator location no later than 1 PM for the afternoon running, and no later than 5 PM for the evening running. The window between runs will likely happen between 4 and 5 PM. All times associated with this spectator area are subject to modification based on event schedule. Remember, since this is a dead end road, the size of the field determines the length of time it takes to complete the running of the stage. We will make more information available concerning this at the event.

UPDATE - June 7, 2006:

The date for this year's Black River Stages Rally has now been rescheduled to the weekend of October 6-8, 2006. We hope to see many old and some new faces at this year's event. If you aren't planning to compete, please think about coming out and working the event and sticking around for the post-event cookout put on by the Harrisville Fire Dept.

UPDATE - April 8, 2006:

Good Morning All,
Yesterday morning, I recieved a call from the Town Supervisor of Diana, Dave Parrow. He requested that we consider moving the date of BRS because he, and the rest of the Town Board, forgot that the first weekend of May is a big ATV/4- wheeler weekend in that area, including them running around on our requested roads. So, given the fact that they would still like us back, and that we have a good working relationship with them, we are postponing BRS until October. The exact date has yet to be selected, but it's going to be the 7th or the 14th. I will be returning all entries.

Thank you all for you support and help thus far. We'll continue to work on getting a couple new roads to make the event even better!

Greg

UPDATE - April 4, 2006:

Entries are coming in at a good pace. We went up to post the roads last weekend, and they're drying out nicely. The locals are looking forward to the event, happy that we're returning after being gone a couple years. Jemba is scheduled in to make the notes later this month and the workers are responding in terrific fashion.

Make reservations for your accommodations soon, as there's another event happening the same weekend in the area.

See you in a month!

UPDATE - March 5, 2006:

We have set a tentative schedule for the weekend of May 5 - 6:

  • Registration and Tech Inspection will be at the Harrisville Fire Hall, located on Church Street, from 2 - 10 PM on Friday, May 5th.
  • The licensing seminar will be at the fire hall Friday evening at 8 PM.
  • The fire hall is also where the single service area will be, as well as the post-event awards party.

We're setting the entry fee at $500 US (Canadians at par) for the 63 stage miles we have now, which will include Jemba prepared route notes and entry into the awards party for you and your crew. If we are successful in adding stage miles, it may change the schedule slightly, but not the entry fee. Once we have a few more things in place, we will be able to begin accepting entries. If there are too few entries two weeks out from the event (April 22), we reserve the right to cancel. If there are enough entries, we'll have a prize fund. If there are too many entries (the limit is 50), we'll consider allowing everyone to run, based on road conditions, and have a bigger prize fund.

We're looking forward to this event returning to the scedule as much as many of you are. Thank you all for the response and support so far. Hopefully everyone who has expressed an interest in it can make it. Keep your fingers crossed for an early spring up there, and come back here soon for updates and the entry form.
