FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Event Added to 2000 SCCA ProRally Championship

Denver, CO-- The SCCA ProRally Championship announced today that a long-standing favorite event on the ProRally circuit, the Wild West ProRally in western Washington state, has returned to the schedule. The addition brings the total number of Championship events for 2000 to nine.

The event, which uses spectacularly scenic, privately owned lumber company roads in the shadow of Mount Olympus, had scheduling challenges in 1999 as well. The organizers coordinated with environmental groups, state and local governments, and the lumber companies, who all worked together to limit the impact the popular event might have on the salmon runs in the spring, and on lumber harvesting in the fall. The situation was compounded for the 2000 season with the addition of the FIA Asia-Pacific Championship event in Colorado in late June, which fell on one of the few dates the Wild West organizers had available to them.

Robert Grass, Chairman of the SCCA Performance Rally Board, and organizer of the Wild West event, was jubilant in this scheduling victory. "Wild West has a long history of excellent competition and presents a challenging venue. We are delighted to be back on the ProRally schedule. That this event will happen proves that big business, environmental concerns and motorsports can, and will, work together to provide exciting racing action that is responsive to public and corporate needs."

SCCA Performance Rally, comprised of the national SCCA ProRally Championship, the regional SCCA ClubRally Championship, and local SCCA RallyCross events, starts its 27th consecutive season in late January. Performance Rally is a globally recognized sport, with millions of fans worldwide. The sport is a unique test of endurance for both the participant and the machine, and thrives in environments where traditional racing activity never treads.

Typical performance rally events will feature fields of 40-80 production-based automobiles, and cover hundreds of miles over a 12-24 hour period, with much of the competition under the cloak of darkness. The roads used for competition are intentionally rugged, making the logging trails of Washington state naturals.

The 2000 SCCA ProRally Schedule now reads as follows:

All events listed above are part of the SCCA ProRally Drivers' Championship and the SCCA ProRally Manufacturers' Championship.
