Sunday, December 7, 1975 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jim Walker and Joe Le Beau of Ann Arbor, MI, drove thier Volvo 142 to victory in the Lancia El Diablo Pro Rally in Green Bay. Walker and Le Beau defeated 28 other rallyists from across the country on the icy roads of northeastern Wisconsin to capture fourth place in the Lancia/Wonder Muffler Pro Rally Series.
1974 Series champions Gene Henderson and Ken Pogue of Dearborn, MI, were second in an AMC Jeep CJ-7, almost two minutes behind Walker and Le Beau. Fellow Michiganders Guy Light and Don Jekel placed third in a Saab.
The road conditions were an overwhelming factor in the outcome of the rally. Virtually all of the special stages were coated with ice and the copetitors reported difficulties ranging from minor spins in the road to major off-course excursions. 1975 Pro Rally Series champion John Buffum and runner-up Scott Harvey both slid off the road and retired. Eight others also did not complete the course for reasons mostly related to the icy conditions.
The winners posted fastest times on seven of the eighteen special stages determining the outcome, with Henderson winning six others. Light was fastest on four stages.
