Primitive Racing Fields 2-Car Subaru Team at Oregon Trail

Hillsboro, OREGON -- Primitive Racing has completed its 2002 WRX for Open Class competition at the Oregon Trail ProRally located in the coastal mountains west of Portland. The rally will take place 4/19 - 4/21 with headquarters in Hillsboro, OR and a service stop at the famous Tillamook Blimp hangar and air museum.

"The car preparation was a long affair of love and hard work," states team owner Paul Eklund, "and I was lucky to have a fabricator like Scott Huhn, to put it together right." The two liter AWD Subaru now boasts 275 hp running through a special, close-ratio 5 speed gearbox, down to grippy Silverstone rally tyres. Handling is controlled by DMS 50mm giant struts on coil over springs. Carbon fiber seats provide a snug fit for driver and co-driver, while a complete fire system from Bell Motorsports provides a margin of safety in case of a turbo fire.

"This car is "sneaky" quick," adds Eklund, "it is so rock solid and quiet, that you don't notice how fast it gets up to 80 MPH. We hope to enjoy even better results than we achieved with our tremendous 2000 Impreza USX rallyecar." Eklund will be joined by co-driver Scott Huhn in the blaze yellow WRX. The car's graphics show the now familiar ThunderLizard logo in long, purple, flame-like strands down the side of the car. The lizard has eyes that move. The team will start 6th on the road on Saturday.

The 2000 USX is a 2.2 liter turbocharged rallycar also prepared by Primitive Racing. It will be driven by rookie driver Karen Price with co-driver Jeff Price providing the navigation duties. Karen is the crew chief for Primitive, but holds several national level driving trophies from SCCA SoloII competition and is a graduate of the Skip Barber high performance driving school. The USX's SOHC design provides much more torque which is useful for exiting tight corners and running up steep hills.

Jeff is Karen's brother and has served as crew member for the past 2 years. Both are excited about the chance to race the car that they have worked on for so long. Their goal is to make the finish, and gain valuable experience and some points towards the ClubRally Championship.
