Team LeConte Chooses Porterfield Brakes for Full 1999 Rally Season

Knoxville, TN -- It was announced today that Team LeConte has selected Porterfield Brakes as its official brake supplier for the 1999 Michelin SCCA ProRally season. Porterfield Brakes, headquartered in Costa Mesa, California, is a leading supplier of Performance Friction products. "We supply brakes to thousands of road racers and Solo II competitors," said Andy Porterfield, "and decided it was time to expand our market by moving into the rally sector." Porterfield will be providing brakes and fluid to both rally cars, a Dodge Shadow ES and a Triumph TR8, as well as the team's "fast attack" support vehicle, a Land Rover Discovery.

SCCA ProRally is enjoying unprecedented growth in the U.S. thanks in part to extensive coverage of events on the Speedvision cable TV network. Rally is one of the most popular forms of motorsports in the world, but until recently was largely unrecognized in this country. "ProRally is approaching critical mass," notes Team LeConte co-driver John Dillon. "More and more viewers are tuning into our races and discovering how exciting these events can be." By sponsoring Team LeConte at rally events all across North America, Porterfield Brakes will receive plenty of exposure, not only for rally competitors, but for the multitude of fans who could also use superior performance braking products.

"Last year we had problems with another type of brake pad," observed driver Kendall Russell. "Sometimes we had brakes, and sometimes we had nothing but a pedal on the floor. I tell ya, it can be mighty scary racing into a corner around a cliff when your brakes are gone!" Her co-driver adds, "Now Kendall can drive with confidence using brakes from Porterfield. She doesn't have to ask herself 'will they work this time?' so we can dive deeper into the corners before jumping on the binders. Paradoxically, having better brakes means we go faster!"

Team LeConte plans to campaign the full National season in the Michelin SCCA ProRally Series, as well as running several events in Canada. At every race Performance Friction pads, supplied by Porterfield Brakes, will give the team the stopping power they need to go faster.

Porterfield Brakes can be reached by phone at 949.548.4470 (800.537.6842 outside California) or via the web at www.porterfieldbrakes.com. The Sports Car Club of America can be found at www.scca.org.
