Grass Valley, California -- The Grass Valley, California based Rally Racing team with 2005 Production class and 2 wheel drive National Champions Sans Thompson and Craig Marr have announced their intentions of changing classes from Production to Group 2 for the 2006 season.
"This was a decision that was very difficult for us to make" states Sans, " I like Production but the change will let us better compete to win and defend the 2 Wheel Drive Championship (Woodner Cup) in 2006. This decision came a bit late especially after running the 1st event as a Production car, but since we didn't finish, and damaged the car it was the proper time to change classes and update the car a bit. We will have to wait and see how the season plays out now"
The Jagged Edge Motorsports team will campaign the same Dodge Neon that they raced to 2 National Championships in 2005, and will retain Crew Chief Tom Laeng for the remainder of the season starting in Oregon April 21-23 2006.
The next race will be in Salem Missouri, February 24-25 2006. The car will be raced in the Production Trim from the 2005 season and will be updated when it returns to California.
"In some respects it will be easier to run the car with the open rules in Group 2" remarks Sans, "but it will require more maintenance and the associated costs that go along. Getting a bit more sponsorship or advertising dollars now is going to be very important for us to finish the season. It was a bit of a shot in the dark for us but if we waited any longer to make the decision we wouldn't have had a chance at the Woodner Cup"
