Pro Rally or Stage Rallying is a motorsport event where teams race against the clock over closed forestry access roads. The team with the fastest total time over the day is declared the winner.
Rally teams from Alberta contested over 100 km of snow covered and icy roads in the Bow Crow Forest area northwest of Cochrane. In places the snow was 8-10 inches deep on the road making the route treacherous and catching many teams off guard sending them into the snowbanks. The local Calgary team of Tomasz Karzynski and Zbignlew Szewczyk, while leading the event, went off the road crashing their Toyota Celica Alltrac heavily into the trees. No one was injured.
Next event in the Western Canadian Rally series is the Bighorn Rally in Hinton, May 22-23 followed by the Rocky Mountain Rally in Calgary on May 28-29. Both these events are also part of the Subaru Canadian Rally Championship.
