Rocky Mountain Rally Presentation… A Three-way Battle to Victory!

Stouffville, Ontario – The second round in the 2007 Canadian Rally Championship, the Rocky Mountain Rally, will take to the road this coming Friday and Saturday, from Calgary, Alberta. This traditional event will set Antoine L’Estage, reigning champion and last year’s winner of this event, against Sylvain Erickson and Andrew Comrie-Picard.

In his Hyundai Tiburon 4WD, and co-driven by Nathalie Richard, 2005 Canadian and North-American rally champion, L’Estage, from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu (QC), is again the favourite of the crowd. But Sylvain Erickson, from Gatineau (QC), co-driven by daughter Chloé, in a Subaru Impreza WRX, has done well in Western Canada rallies, in the past. And, like L’Estage, he has also won the Rocky before (2002). However, these two Québec teams will not be the only ones vying for victory. Winner of the Perce-Neige and leader of the 2007 championship, Andrew Comrie-Picard will also take the start in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 RS. With co-driver Marc Goldfarb, the Toronto driver will want to keep on winning.

Local hero Gord Olsen, co-driven by BC’s Todd Patola, would be another good prospect for a podium finish. Well-known for his talent in a 2WD VW Golf, Olsen will take the start for the first time at a national event, in a 4WD Open-class Subaru Legacy.

Other drivers looking for high finishing positions include Peter Reilly/Ray Felice (VW Golf 4WD), Jorge Dascollas, in a Toyota Celica GT4, and Warren Currie and Robert Chapelsky, in a Subaru Impreza WRX. Reigning champions in Group 5, Zbigniew Szewczyk and Tomasz Karzinski, in a Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart, will also be part of the 36 teams to take the start.

The Rocky Mountain Rally will start at noon Friday, May 25 in front of the Blackfoot Inn in Calgary. A super stage will be held at the Blackfoot Motorcycle Park at 7:00 PM. The following day, the rally will move to Porcupine Hills, southwest of Calgary, to determine the winner. Competitors are expected back at 6:00 PM. Filming for TV is provided by ATV Productions.
