The 1998 Kananaskis Trails Rally - last event in the Western Canada Rally Championship took place this weekend near Calgary Alberta. Snow flurries for a few days before the event made the usually challenging Powderface Trail and Gorge Creek Trail even tougher.

The event started with excitement as two cars left the road on the first corner of the first stage! David Palmer and Wade Anderson hit a bank flattening a tire and causing the radiator of their Ford Capri to hit the fan. Then Krzystof Petrykowski / Brad Bengston hit the same bank and flew over it rolling their VW Golf 6 times down the other side. No one was injured other than the car.

The only other DNF was Peter/Gregor Jeffrey high centering their Eagle Talon on stage 2. Stage 5 was delayed for about 30 minutes while a road grader sent in to plow the snow had a flat tire and was replacing it before finishing the grading. He was trying to improve the road before the rally - Great people at Alberta Transportation!
