Toronto, ON, Canada -- The Subaru Canadian Rally Championship has become a major superpower in the world of Canadian motorsports thanks to Yokohama Tire Canada and Subaru Canada's sponsorship renewal with the Canadian Association of Rallysport (CARS).
The Suburu Canadian Rally Championship series continued to gain popularity in 2000 as it was televised in both English and French on major networks such as TSN and RDS. In addition, the Rallye International de Charlevoix, the most spectacular leg of the Subaru Canadian Rally Championship, is sanctioned as an official candidate event for possible inclusion in the World Rally Championship. The 2001 Canadian series begins with the Rallye de Quebec on January 26-28 in Quebec City and concludes with the Rally of Tall Pines on November 23-24 in Bancroft, Ontario.
The Subaru Canadian Rally Championship tests both a driver's and vehicle's capability. According to Brian Hyland, National Manager, Distribution and Public Relations of Subaru Canada, "Rallysport, being one of the most demanding of venues for both automobiles and automotive products, provides Subaru with the opportunity to demonstrate the performance of our products and commitment to dependability and reliability. Whether it is the 1985 Subaru GL driven by Dave Koszegi or the factory sponsored Impreza WRX driven by Tom McGeer, all of our vehicles, regardless of age, have shown their competitiveness and durability."
Stephane Morel, Manager, Marketing and Communications, Consumer Products at Yokohama Tire (Canada) Inc. comments about the renewed partnership, "We get a lot of mileage from our association with the Subaru Canadian Rally Championship in terms of awareness, visibility, and product showcasing. Our association with the series and our sponsorship of two of the best competing teams, Sylvain Vincent/Dominique Cyr and Frank/Dan Sprongl, provides Yokohama with the best possible opportunity to demonstrate tangible proof that Yokohama products are as reliable as they are dependable in the cruelest of driving situations."
CARS is the sanctioning body for all Canadian rallysport. The organization, affiliated with ASN Canada FIA, has grown considerably with a significant increase in licensed competitors in 2000 alone. Terry Epp, president of CARS comments, "Much of the success that Canadian rallysport has experienced during the last three years is a direct result of our partnership with Subaru Canada and Yokohama Tire Canada. This is an excellent time for Canadian rallysport. The continuing partnership between CARS, Subaru and Yokohama will ensure the continued growth of the sport as well as increased national media coverage for an increasingly prestigious series"
