Maine Forest Rally

ROUND SIX - MICHELIN SCCA PRO RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP

July 30-August 2, 1998

The 1998 Maine Forest Summer Rally will be a Friday/Saturday event counting toward the Michelin/SCCA PRO Rally Championship. There will also be a Divisional co-efficient 3 event run in conjunction with the National; points will be awarded toward the 1998 Divisional Championship.

The National will consist of 13 special stages, ranging in length from 1/2 to 16 miles, with a total stage length of 112 miles. The Divisional will be the first 7 stages on Saturday, totalling 72 stage miles. Most stages will be run twice, some in the same direction, most in opposite directions. We have rearranged the route so that there will be only one "dead-end stage, the first evening. All the gravel stages are on roads owned by MEADE PAPER CO., INTERNATIONAL PAPER CO. and SEVEN ISLANDS LAND CO. The roads range from medium fast two lane to narrower and twistier 1-1/2 lane; most are of the latter variety.

Friday afternoon will commence with a 6 mile "in and out' stage. Competitors then return to Rumford WITHOUT service to a Parc Ferme. Then a 1/2 mile asphalt spectator stage will be run in Rumford, with the finish on the main street. This stage will be run twice, at 30 second intervals, in reverse order. Saturday will commence with two stages run twice in opposite directions with service in between. Then a two hour lunch break will be followed by three stages around Parmachenee Lake returning to Oquossoc for service. The National then returns to the Parmachenee area for a modified, reverse-running of the previous three stages. We have shortened these slightly, but avoided any dead-end. The rally then ends BEFORE dark.

Due to the small amount of hotel space in the Rumford area, competitors are urged to make their reservations early! The Madison Hotel is headquarters - First come-first served. Each entry will be responsible for making its own reservations.

A prize fund for the National will be established when more than 30 entries are received. We expect this to total $2,000. If more than 40 entries are received, we will increase the prize fund by 50% of the entry fees. Trophies will be awarded separately to National and Divisional entrants and classes. Rally Car Plates will be included for all National entries.

This year - after 25 years of SCCA PRO rallying - we are gathering all the winners from all the National PRO rallies to attend a reunion at the Maine Forest rally. Our plans are to have a post-rally party and introduce all those drivers able to attend to the present rally population. This should be a great event - we hope present-day rally enthusiasts will attend.

The entry fee is $400 for the National; for the Divisional alone, the fee is $250; to compete in both events, the fee is $450. If the National entry is not received by July 16, 1998, add $50. Canadian funds will be accepted at par from legitimate Canadian competitors.
