The 2005 Maine Winter Rally will be a Saturday event counting toward the 2006 Rally America Eastern Regional Championship. It will be a low key, hopefully enjoyable event with the minimum of hassles.
The MWR will consist of 4 special stages. Middle Dam IN, run twice, is 14 miles long and ends at the dam (dead end). Middle Dam OUT, 16 miles long, will obviously be the road out from the dam, using a slightly different route, run twice. The stage is on land owned by SEVEN ISLANDS LAND CO. We expect that it will be snow covered. (We have run the winter event eigth times and only once has there been no real accumulation of snow. The road should be frozen in any case and thus snow is actually an advantage, as it makes the road smoother.) The road network is the same as the first stages Saturday morning from the MFR 2005. It is our best stage.
Friday night's Registration will be at the Madison Inn, located on Rt. 2 in Rumford, ME, where Maine Forest Rallies of the past have been headquartered. Scrutineering will be located at Auto Tech, behind the Citgo station, 3 miles east of the Madison, also an old Maine Forest Rally stomping ground.
The rally itself will have no transit timing, thus you may trailer your car up north to the DOT Lot located on Rt.16 in Wilsons Mills, ME. The DOT Lot is 55 miles from Rumford and only 3 miles from Middle Dam IN. Your timecard will have your START TIME for the first stage (we expect first car at 10:01). You merely need to be in position to start that stage (and all the stages) at the IDEAL TIME shown on your card. Your final score will be the total of the 4 stages. If for some reason you are not in position by the IDEAL START TIME, and the stage is ready to run, you will be penalized at the rate of 12 seconds per minute of lateness.
Between the runnings of Middle Dam IN the first time and the second time, you may service in the DOT Lot; we expect the service time to be about 1 hour. Vermont Sports Car, with the help of Red Bull, will be providing hot coffee, soup and hot dogs. We expect the second run to start at 1:01, and thus no night driving should be necessary.
We are planning a pizza party and awards for Saturday evening; more info later.
