ROUND SIX - SCCA PRORALLY CHAMPIONSHIP

July 26-28, 2001

The 2001 Maine Forest Rally will be a Friday/Saturday event counting toward the SCCA ProRally Championship. There will also be two Club rallies; a co-efficient 2 on Friday afternoon and a co-efficient 3 event Saturday run in conjunction with the National; points will be awarded toward the 2001 ClubRally Championship.

The National will consist of 9 special stages, ranging in length from 1/2 to 23 miles (the LONGEST STAGE in SCCA ProRally), with a total stage length of 97 miles. Friday's Club rally - the Seven Islands ClubRally - will consist of 4 stages of 22 miles; Saturday's Club rally - the Mead ClubRally - will have 5 stages - 75 miles. Most stages will be run once, with some repeated in various configurations; all stages will be run in the DAYLIGHT. Except for the "in-town" stage, all stages are run on gravel roads owned by MEAD PAPER CO., INTERNATIONAL PAPER CO. and SEVEN ISLANDS LAND CO. The roads range from medium fast two lane to narrower and twistier 1-1/2 lane; most are of the latter variety.

Due to the increasing popularity of ProRallying and the coincidental increase in entries, we believe that we can no longer run dead-end stages and that it is unwise in general to use stage roads twice; thus the shorter, but hopefully more competitor-friendly, route.

The rally will start with a downtown Parc Expose. The route proceeds, two cars per minute, to a dead-end holding area. When all cars have arrived, Stage 1 will be this road "out", followed by service, followed by Stages 2 and 3; then a return to Rumford, possibly using a new "spectator stage", and a "pizza party" at the Pavilion.

Saturday's first control is near the start of the first stage to allow competitors to proceed northward at their convenience. The majority of the rally will then be run in the Parmachenee area. One stage will be used in Magalloway with a section of it being new this year. We are still assessing the service stop facilities, but the length of the lunch stop will be shortened. The rally will end with the usual "in-town" stage, safety concerns being satisfied. An awards/buffet party will follow at Sunday River Ski Area.

We have worked with Sunday River Ski Resort (800-430-0767 - specify Maine Forest Rally Code #597804), located 15 miles west of Rumford, to increase the number of hotel rooms, and we believe that everyone can be accommodated in a 15-mile radius of Rumford. If you were forced to stay further away in past years, check with the local hotels in Rumford this year. The Riverview and the Norseman in the town of Bethel, Maine are also other possibilities.

Furthermore, we will open a "bunkhouse" at Sunday River for those cost-conscious competitors and workers if there is enough demand. There are a series of rooms, with 4 to 8 beds per room, which may be reserved for $30/person/night. For info/reservations contact Ted Goddard, Chairman, immediately, to show your interest.

There is no official "headquarters" hotel - the town of Rumford is the headquarters. Registration and scrutineering will again be at the Pavilion at the Linnell and the town garage respectively.

The LARGEST PRIZE FUND in SCCA ProRally will exceed $7000, with starting/tow money. Trophies will be awarded separately to National and ClubRally entrants and classes. A Rally Car Plate will be included for ALL entries.

The LOWEST ENTRY FEE in SCCA ProRally is $425 for the National; for the Friday ClubRally, the fee is $150; for Saturday's, it's $300; for both, it's $425. To compete in the National plus both Club rallies, the fee is $475. If the National entry is not received by July 13, 2001, add $100. Canadian funds for the entry fee will be accepted at par from legitimate Canadian competitors.

We must set an entry limit of 120 cars, but we believe that this number will still allow us to accept all entries.

The buffet/awards will be at Sunday River in a ballroom that will accommodate 450 people. Two tickets will be free with each entry; additional tickets are $20 each; purchase at registration. Please indicate on your entry form which rallies you're entering and how many buffet tickets you estimate you might buy.

Make checks payable to: New England Region SCCA and mail to: Cat McKeen, Box 2113, So. Burlington, VT 05407.

SUPPLEMENTAL REGULATIONS before the event and the RESULTS following the event will only be available at our web site (MaineForestRally.com); if competitors do not have access to the internet, a 'hardcopy' may be requested from the Registrar.

We understand that most competitors come to a rally, not only to race, but to enjoy the competition and the involvement in one of the most exciting of all motorsports. To this end, we have structured the course, event locations, time schedule, parties, etc., in a user-friendly manner. On Saturday, we will again have the "DNF Van". This van follows course-closing to aid those drivers who have had trouble negotiating the course (i.e., crashed or broken). It will bring one or both drivers back to the service area.
