The 2003 Maine Forest Rally will be a Friday/Saturday event - Round Six of the SCCA ProRally Championship.
There will also be a Co-efficient 3 Club Rally on Saturday, running the entire Saturday course.
The MFR will consist of 11 special stages, ranging in length from 1/2 to 22 miles, with a total stage length of
124 miles. Friday's rally will consist of 4 stages - 22 miles; Saturday's rally will have 7 stages - 103 miles. Most
stages will be run once, with some repeated in various configurations; the last stage Friday evening will be run in
darkness for some competitors. All stages are on gravel roads owned by MEADWESTVACO PAPER CO., INTERNATIONAL PAPER CO.
and SEVEN ISLANDS LAND CO. The roads range from medium fast two lane to narrower and twistier 1-1/2 lane; most are of the latter variety.
The rally will start with a downtown Parc Expose. This year the route will proceed to the first spectator stage and then
directly (no service) to stages 2 and 3; competitors will then return to service at the Ames parking lot near the Linnell.
The route then completes the evening with the challenging Concord Pond stage, before returning to the Ames lot for a one-hour
service and then an overnight Parc Ferme. A "pizza party" at the Linnell ends the night.
The Saturday morning restart from Ames will take competitors to the Magalloway and Parmachenee areas, where the majority of the rally
will be run. We are still assessing the service stop facilities, but we expect two short services and one long one in Oquossoc.
The official finish of the rally will be in Oquossoc with an awards/buffet party at Sunday River Ski Resort.
We understand that most competitors come to a rally, not only to race, but to enjoy the competition and the involvement in one of
the most exciting of all motorsports. To this end, we have structured the course, event locations, time schedule, parties, etc.,
in a user-friendly manner. We will once again have the "DNF Van". This van follows course-closing to aid those drivers who have
had trouble negotiating the course (i.e., crashed or broken). It will bring one or both drivers back to the service area.
SUPPLEMENTAL REGULATIONS before the event and the RESULTS following the event will only be available at our web site
(MaineForestRally.com); if competitors do not have access to the Internet, a 'hardcopy' may be requested from the Registrar.
Stage Notes will be available for sale from the SCCA. All notes must be reserved in advance by contacting the SCCA directly
(see Competitor Bulletin PRCB 051903 at SCCA web site).
The LARGEST PRIZE FUND in SCCA ProRally will exceed $7000, with starting/tow money. Trophies will be awarded separately
to class winners as well as ClubRlally winners. There will be separate awards and prize money for the highest placed Privateers
(non factory entries). A Rally Car Plate will be included for all NATIONAL entries.
The entry fee for the National is $650. The entry fee for the ClubRally is $500. The entry fee to be scored in
both events is $750. We must set an entry limit of 110 cars total; we hope that we can accommodate all entries. If the entry is
not received by July 18, 2003, add $100. Canadian funds for the entry fee will be accepted at par from legitimate Canadian
competitors. Requests for scratches/refunds must be received in writing (fax 802-263-9540) by the Registrar no later than
July 19, 2003. Requests after that date could be subject to only a partial refund.
All entries must complete Registration and Tech at the prescribed times. If you are only entered in the National and you
DNF on Friday night, you will not be allowed to restart the Club event on Saturday (Registration will not be open). To be able to restart,
you must have initially been entered in both events.
The draw for starting positions will be handled in the following manner: We'll accept all entries received by July 18. We'll guarantee to
hold 20 starting positions for ClubRally Only entrants. If we have more than 110 total entries (which we don't expect), we'll use the
postmarked date to decide which 20 Club entries to accept. For the National Rally, we'll start with the top seeds and work downward.
If we have more than 110 total entries, when we get to the last seed, we'll put all entries in that seed in a hat and draw out entries
until we reach 90. Those "left in the hat" will be notified and put on a waiting list. All entries will receive a postcard confirming
receipt of their entry. The draw for start positions for FIA/Seed 0 entries will be held on Thursday night in the Registration room at Sunday River.
The buffet/awards dinner will be at Sunday River in a ballroom that will accommodate 450 people. The buffet will be served first with
only ticket holders being allowed in the room. When the buffet is finished, the doors will open for the awards ceremony. Scoring
and the bar will NOT be located in the ballroom.
NO tickets are included with the entry; all tickets must be reserved in advance. Please indicate on your entry form the number
of tickets desired. Buffet tickets must be ordered and guaranteed before the event; however there may be a limited number of tickets
available, first come, first served, at the event for $30. Changes in your ticket order may be made in writing or by fax (802-263-9540) up to July 19, 2003.
Make checks payable to: New England Region SCCA and mail to: Ted Goddard, PO Box 267, Perkinsville, VT 05151.
Rooming information in Rumford is available directly from the Madison, Linnell or Blue Iris motels or from the Chamber of Commerce at 207-364-3241.
Sunday River Ski Resort (800-430-0767 - specify Maine Forest Rally Code #731-111) located 15 miles west of Rumford, has 200 plus rooms,
so we believe that everyone can be accommodated in a 20-mile radius of Rumford. In addition to the lodging in Rumford, the Riverview
and the Norseman in the town of Bethel, Maine are also other possibilities.
There will be a NER/SCCA Rallycross on Sunday in Newry, Maine. Details will be available at the rally or you can contact Richard Duplessis
at 207-836-2543 or e-mail him at poohfarm@megalink.net for more information.
