Maine Forest Rally

Event Information

Rumford, Maine
July 30-31, 2004

The 2004 Maine Forest Rally will be a Friday/Saturday event - Round Six of the SCCA ProRally Championship. There will also be a co-efficient 3 Club Rally, running the entire Saturday course. The Club Rally results will also count for the Eastern States Rally Championship. This series, a combination of NASA and SCCA events, allows competitors to compete in a regional series without the expense of transporting cars and crew across the country. Administrators of the series will use the club rally results to score the club rally event towards this Championship.

The MFR will consist of 11 special stages, ranging in length from 1/2 to 22 miles, with a total stage length of 108 miles. Friday's rally will consist of 4 stages - 22 miles; Saturday's rally will have 7 stages - 86 miles. Most stages will be run once, with some repeated in various configurations; the last stage Friday evening will be run in darkness for some competitors. All stages are on gravel roads owned by WAGNER FOREST MANAGEMENT CO., INTERNATIONAL PAPER CO. and SEVEN ISLANDS LAND CO. The roads range from medium fast two lane to narrower and twistier 1-1/2 lane; most are of the latter variety.

Pre-rally activities will be at the Mexico Rec. Area, including a Parc Expose. The rally will start with the Rec. Area Spectator Stage and then proceed directly (no service) to stages 2 and 3; competitors will return to service at the Thurston Lot - as in 2003. The route then concludes the evening with the challenging Concord Pond stage. Upon completion of Concord Pond, crews will be free for the evening - no overnight parc ferme. We are currently planning on a "pizza party" at the Sunday River Brewery.

The Saturday morning restart will be from the Sunday River Brewery - as in 2002; the route will take competitors to the Magalloway and Parmachenee areas, where the majority of the rally will be run. We expect two short services (fuel only) at the DOT Lot and one long one in Oquossoc. The official finish of the rally will be in Oquossoc with a buffet/awards party at Sunday River Ski Resort.

We understand that most competitors come to a rally, not only to race, but to enjoy the competition and the involvement in one of the most exciting of all motorsports. To this end, we have structured the course, event locations, time schedule, parties, etc., in a user-friendly manner. We will once again have the "DNF Van" on Saturday. This van follows course-closing to aid those drivers who have had trouble negotiating the course (i.e., crashed or broken). It will bring one or both drivers back to the service area.

SUPPLEMENTAL REGULATIONS before the event and the RESULTS following the event will only be available at our web site (MaineForestRally.com); if competitors do not have access to the Internet, a 'hardcopy' may be requested from the Registrar.

Stage Notes will be available for sale from the SCCA. All notes must be reserved in advance by contacting the SCCA directly.

Prize money will depend upon securing sponsorship; starting/tow money will be available as usual. Trophies will be awarded separately to class winners as well as Club Rally winners. A Rally Car Plate will be included for ALL entries.

The entry fee for the National is $700. The entry fee for the ClubRally is $500. The entry fee to be scored in both events is $800. We must set an entry limit of 100 cars total; we are confident that we can accommodate all entries. If the entry is not received by July 15, 2004, add $100. Canadian funds for the entry fee will be accepted at par from legitimate Canadian competitors. Requests for scratches/refunds must be received in writing (fax 802-263-9540) by the Registrar no later than July 17, 2004. Requests after that date could be subject to only a partial refund.

All entries, both Pro and Club, must complete Registration and Tech at the prescribed times. If you are only entered in the National and you DNF on Friday night, you will NOT be allowed to restart the Club event on Saturday (Registration will not be open). To be able to restart, you must have initially been entered in both events.

The draw for starting positions will be handled in the following manner: We'll accept all entries received by July 16. We'll guarantee to hold 20 starting positions for ClubRally Only entrants. If we have more than 100 total entries (which we don't expect), we'll use the postmarked date to decide which 20 Club entries to accept. For the National Rally, we'll start with the top seeds and work downward. If we have more than 100 total entries, when we get to the last seed, we'll put all entries in that seed in a hat and draw out entries until we reach 100. Those "left in the hat" will be notified and put on a waiting list. All entries will receive a postcard confirming receipt of their entry. The draw for start positions for FIA/Seed 0 Open class entries will be held on Thursday night in the Registration room at Sunday River.

The buffet/awards dinner will be at Sunday River in a ballroom that will accommodate 450 people. The buffet will be served first with only ticket holders being allowed in the room. When the buffet is finished, the doors will open for the awards ceremony. Scoring and the bar will NOT be located in the ballroom.

NO tickets are included with the entry; all tickets must be reserved in advance. Please indicate on your entry form the number of tickets desired. Buffet tickets must be ordered and guaranteed before the event; however there may be a limited number of tickets available, first come, first served, at the event for $30. Changes in your ticket order may be made in writing or by fax (802-263-9540) up to July 19, 2004.

Make checks payable to: New England Region SCCA and mail to: Ted Goddard, PO Box 267, Perkinsville, VT 05151.
