Maine Forest Rally
Event Information

Newry, Maine
July 20-22, 2006

The 2006 Maine Forest Rally will be a Friday/Saturday event counting toward the Rally America National Championship. There will be a Coefficient 2 Eastern Regional Rally on Friday and a Coefficient 3 Eastern Regional Rally on Saturday.

The MFR will consist of 10 special stages, ranging in length from 1/2 to 16 miles, with a total stage length of 95 miles. Friday's rally will consist of 4 stages - 28 miles; Saturday's rally will have 6 stages - 66 miles. Most stages will be run twice, with some repeated in various configurations. The last stage Friday evening may be run in darkness for some competitors. All stages are on gravel roads owned by DILLON LOGGING, SEVEN ISLANDS LAND CO. and LANDVEST. The roads range from medium fast two lane to narrower and twistier 1-1/2 lane.

On Thursday we will do a ONE PASS RECCE for all those interested. All but one stage will be covered using the Jemba Notes as a starting point. Thursday afternoon we’ll have a shakedown stage, probably on the same road as last year. Registration and Tech will follow that evening in the Sunday River 'South Ridge' area. A pre-rally party and videos at the Phoenix House, also located at South Ridge, will conclude the day's activities.

Registration and Tech will continue on Friday morning, again at the South Ridge area. At noon a Parc Expose at the Mexico Rec Area will precede a parade lap thru the Rec Area stage and a chance to 'try' the jump. Returning immediately to the start of the stage, the rally proper will commence with one run of the Rec Area stage. The rally then proceeds to stage 2 – South Arm. This year competitors will turn around at the end of the stage (light refreshments will be available) in a boat landing area and then run South Arm backwards as SS 3.

A return to the Rec Area will allow competitors to service and regroup before tackling the final stage of the day – the challenging Concord Pond stage. Upon completion of Concord Pond, crews will return to Sunday River for a 1-hour flex-service before an overnight Parc Ferme (to allow everyone to have the night free). We are currently planning on Friday Regional results and refreshments at the Phoenix House, located next to the Parc Ferme/service zone.

On Saturday the Parc Ferme will open at 7 AM and all competitors will proceed to Berlin, NH (35 miles) for a Parc Expose. From the 9:30 AM start it’s only a mile to the start of the Dillon-Success stage (including a spectator area near the start). After another stage, the rally returns to Berlin and the NH Community Technical College for service. Another similar loop returns competitors to NHCTC for a second service. From here a long transit leads to the final two stages at Middle Dam. Only a quick gas/service remains in the last transit to the finish at Sunday River. A buffet and awards presentation will round out the evening.
