Maine Forest Rally
2006 Update

From John:

Finally spring has come and it’s been early and has reduced the ‘mud season’ to a short, painless affair. We’ve done a preliminary pre-check of the course and have spoken with some new organizations with varying success. In list form here’s what Maine Forest Rally looks like for 2006:

1. The roads used will be similar to last year. We talked with Plum Creek Logging Co. to get permission to use another road but they declined. The route from last year worked well, perhaps with the exception of two rougher areas. In South Arm, for 2006 we’ll continue northward instead of turning right onto the small side road. We’ll again work with Dillon logging to make the end of Dillon-Success smoother.

2. All pre-event activities before the start of the event will be at Sunday River Resort. Last years split between there and Bethel caused confusion and just didn’t work well. Registration, Tech, Shakedown, Thursday party, Friday Regional awards and party and the Awards Buffet will all be in the South Ridge Base Lodge area, located to the end of the Sunday River access road.

3. We are talking to the Logging/Land Companies to try and do a one-pass recce of the stages on Thursday. Jemba style stage notes will still be available for all competitors, even if they’re unable to arrive early enough to do the pre-recce. Competitors having an opinion pro or con about the recce are asked to e-mail the rallymaster at: librarally@aol.com.

4. We will do a Friday overnight Parc Ferme to allow all competitors and mechanics to enjoy the evening. A one hour service will precede the Parc Ferme.

5. The Friday start will again be in the Mexico Rec area. We’re planning on building a jump in the ball field straight and perhaps running the stage twice at 30 second intervals. Friday’s service area will be at the Rec Park and will not move to Oquossoc. Thus spectating will be available only at the Rec area on Friday.

6. To further help bring the sport to the local population, we are moving the Saturday restart to Berlin, New Hampshire. We’ll leave the overnight Parc Ferme at 7 am and be in Berlin from 8-9 am. It’s then a 1 mile transit to the start of the Dillon-Success stage; we’ll have a new spectator area near the start of the stage right at the edge of Berlin. The service area will be at the NH Technical College at the north side of Berlin; two service areas will take place here – only a gas-splash after the last stage will take place in the DOT Lot.

From Ted:

The Maine Forest Rally Committee and its many volunteer workers would like to thank you for attending the 2005 event. We all look forward to you attending the 15th running of the Maine Forest Rally on 20-22 July 2006. Please note this is one week earlier than last year. This was done so the X-Games could be fitted in the calendar. Please invite your fellow competitors who missed last year.

The MFR committee is working on several fronts to make the 2006 edition even better than 2005. The City of Berlin, NH has joined the event so as to have a more interesting start for Saturday. Details are still in the planning stage, but it can be said there will be a Parc Expose and formal start in downtown Berlin with the service area at the New Hampshire Technical College just north of town.

Sunday River Resort will continue to be the headquarters. Tech and Registration will be at Sunday River. The Friday End of Day Party will again be at the Phoenix House at Sunday River. The Friday Regional awards will be given out at this time.

For 2006 the Friday activities will be almost the same – Mexico Recreation Park Service and Spectator Stage; South Arm Stage twice – Concord Pond stage – returning to the Phoenix House to end the day among friends telling stories of why you did not win.

Saturday will see the rally move to the start in Berlin; stages to the East of town; service at NHTC; finishing with the Middle Dam Stage twice before returning to Sunday River for the awards buffet.

Sunday River Resort and Bethel Inn Resort are both locations capable of hosting Corporate activities for your sponsors. The Maine Forest Rally committee has the experience in assisting you and/or your sponsor arranging an activity around the MFR. There is available a “Support Package” outlining many of the items. If you are interested in ways to support the event, please contact Ted Goddard.

There are a limited number of 2005 license plates available for $25.00 prepaid including shipping while supplies last. [Check payable to Motorsports Consultants, P.O. Box 267, Perkinsville, VT 05151]

The supplier of the 2005 event t-shirt has a limited supply left. Contact Joe Robinson, Jarato, 64 Congress St, Rumford, ME. Tel: 207-364-0883; E-mail: jarato@megalink.net.

The entry information will be posted by June 5th. Follow the planning progress on www.maineforestrally.com.

See you on the Maine Forest Rally!
