New England Forest Rally
Event Information

Newry, Maine
July 11-12, 2008

The 2008 New England Forest Rally will be a Friday/Saturday event counting toward the Rally America National Championship. There will be a Coefficient 2 Eastern Regional Rally on Friday and a Coefficient 3 Eastern Regional Rally on Saturday.

The NEFR will consist of 11 special stages, ranging in length from 1/2 to 16 miles, with a total stage length of 103 miles. Friday's rally will consist of 5 stages - 28 miles; Saturday's rally will have 6 stages - 75 miles. Most stages will be run twice, in opposite directions. The last stage Friday evening may be run in darkness for some competitors. All stages are on gravel roads owned by DILLON LOGGING and SEVEN ISLANDS LAND CO. The roads range from medium fast two lane to narrower and twistier 1-1/2 lane.

On Thursday we'll have a Recce Pre-Run (approx. 7-5:30), Tech starting late afternoon, and Registration starting early evening at the South Ridge Lodge at Sunday River. From 6-8:30 PM there will be a press/shakedown stage and autograph signing, this year at the Sunday River complex, with the Phoenix House being the central point. Food and beverages will be available.

Registration and Tech will continue on Friday morning, again at the South Ridge Lodge. A mid-morning Parc Expose at Sunday River will be followed by the start of the rally and immediately the first stage. A transit will then take the cars to another Parc Expose in the Mexico Rec Area. At approx. 2 PM a parade will take the competitors for a pre-run of the Rec area stage and jump, before returning directly to the start of the Rec stage. The rally then resumes with the official Rec stage, before proceeding to stage 3 - South Arm. As last year, the competitors will turn around at the end of the stage (light refreshments will be available) in a boat landing area and then run South Arm backwards as SS 4.

A return to the Rec Area will allow competitors to service and regroup before tackling the final stage of the day – the challenging Concord Pond stage. Upon completion of Concord Pond, crews will return to Sunday River for a 1-hour flex-service before an overnight Parc Ferme (to allow everyone to have the night free). The results of Friday's Regional and refreshments will be at the Phoenix House, located next to the Parc Ferme/service zone.

On Saturday the Parc Ferme will open at 6:30 AM and all competitors will proceed to Berlin, NH (35 miles) for a Parc Expose. From the 9 AM start it’s only a mile to the start of the Dillon-Success stage (including a spectator area near the start). A reverse running of that stage will bring the competitors back to the Berlin area (via another spectator area) for service.

From here a long transit leads to the best stages of the rally: Middle Dam. In general, long In and Out stages will be followed by service at the DOT Lot. The last stage will be a modified re-run of the first two. All that remains now is a long transit to the finish at South Ridge. An awards presentation and after rally party will round out the evening.

Friday night's DNF's must be checked by Tech before starting on Saturday.

Starting/tow money will be available dependant on the number of entries. Trophies will be awarded separately to class winners as well as Regional Rally winners. A Rally Car Plate will be included for all entries.

There will be no buffet this year - only light 'finger-foods' and a cash bar - at South Ridge Lodge at Sunday River (Registration building). Awards will also be held here. The after-rally party is at the Legends Bar in the Grand Summit.

Supplemental Regulations before the event and the Official Results following the event will only be available at our web site; if competitors do not have access to the Internet, a 'hardcopy' may be requested from the Registrar.

STAGE NOTES will be available for sale from Rally America. All notes must be reserved in advance by contacting Rally America directly.

Maps of the general layout of the Sunday River, Mexico and Berlin areas will be available on the website to aid competitors and crews as to locations for events.

SUNOCO RACE FUEL will be available; contact Registrar for ordering info.

We understand that most competitors come to a rally, not only to race, but to enjoy the competition and the involvement in one of the most exciting of all motorsports. To this end, we have structured the course, event locations, time schedule, parties, etc., in a user-friendly manner.
