Performance Rallying

Real Roads...Real Cars...Real Fast

March 2004

A short note to bring you up to date on what has happened since the last Newsletter.

NEDiv ClubRally Steward: Greg Healey stepped down from the job after the 2003 season. I, for one, want to thank him for all the time and effort he put in these past years. In January I was appointed to the job. Greg, when I told you I was interested in carrying on your work, you never told me how much there was to do. Was that for fear I would not take the job? I now have the job and each day I find out more of what I am supposed to do.

My primary goal is to continue to grow the ClubRally program in the NEDiv. I have had talks directly and indirectly with Diane, JB, and the Irish contingent. From them I got the message that the competitors want a more formal championship with awards. I welcome all the input you, as a participant, wish to give me. SCCA National Convention: There were several meetings involving the Performance Rally Program. The strategic plan was presented -- more emphasis on growing the grass roots. The Town Meeting spent its time on the nuts and bolts. A presenting sponsor for the ProRally Series was announced -- Hot Wheels. This was two years in the making (and you think you have difficulties in landing a sponsor). Many details to be announced. Should give the sport and SCCA great exposure. The PRB and Divisional Stewards had a meeting to go over the Operations Manual.

MAINE FOREST RALLY: The MFR has obtained landowners permission so the event is firm. There will be an SCCA ProRally Friday and Saturday. There will be an SCCA/NEDiv C3 concurrent on Saturday.

STPR: I have heard from the event Chairman that in addition to the SCCA ProRally, there will be running concurrently an SCCA/NEDiv C2 and C3. The plan, not final, is to run the C2 using the stages before the main in-town service break and the C3 after the break.

GNW and MW: I have heard from the main landowners and discussions are on-going. They want the events to happen. As they say, it is in the details. More later.

NEDiv Awards: The NEDiv Awards will be given out at the NEDiv Mini-Convention, November 12-14, 2004. The location will be in the Westchester County, NY area. Home turf of the Irish contingent -- expect a PARTY!!

NEDIV ClubRally Championship: The 2004 Championship season will end on 31 October 2004. The 2005 Championship season will run from 1 November 2004 to 31 October 2005. This is done to allow the Awards to be given out at the NEDiv Mini-Convention in November. At this time I am aware of the following events in the 2004 season: STRP, Maine Forest, Great North Woods and Black River. I hear rumors there may be others.

I would like to poll the competitors on the following options concerning C1's:

For NEDiv Divisional scoring, there are several options for scoring C1's. Please e-mail you comments to tedgcb@aol.com. Thank you, Ted.

  1. Count each C1 as per the Rule Book regardless how many C1's are run on a given day.
  2. Count only your best C1 if more than one is run on a given day.
  3. Do NOT count C1's toward the NEDiv ClubRally Championship.

Remember none of the above choices will change the counting of your best 6 events.

News Letter: In order to control costs, I have removed all of the 2002 names from the NER Rally mailing list. After this mailing, I will have to start paring down the people who have not let me know they wish to stay on the list.

That's all for now,
Ted Goddard
