Morris, PA -- The New York City team of Tom Lawless and John Kenneally drove their Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IV to victory over twenty-four other teams at the annual north central Pennsylvania event. Using the no-points event as a "test and tune" opportunity, Lawless flew in a RalliArt technician from Europe to optimize the engine for next month's Susquehannock Trail ProRally in Wellsboro, PA.
Proving their double win at the Cherokee Trails ClubRallies was no fluke, Randy Zimmer of Buffalo, NY and Dave Shindle of Landover Hills, MD drove their Subaru Impreza to second overall and second in the Open class. Zimmer, a former Racer now turned Rallyist, looks like the man to beat in the 2001 Northeast ClubRally Championship Open class.
Third overall and first in Group 2 was the newest addition to the Team Honda Research (THR) rally effort. James Robinson, brother of THR driver Nick Robinson, and James Newton, fellow Honda engineer, drove an ex-Brian Hourt Honda Civic to an outstanding first rally finish for the Marysville, Ohio team.
Jason Rivas of Oakdale, NY and Constantine Montopoulos of Staten Island, NY brought the Quattro Motion Audi to a fine first rally fourth overall and third in the Open class.
Rounding out the top five were 2000 Northeast ClubRally Champions Padraig Purcell and Paul McGrath. The Yonkers, NY team were testing a new engine in their Group 2 Vauxhall Astra GSI.
First Production GT honors went to another team on their first rally. Allen Downs and Kevin Downs of Wells, ME finished sixth overall in their Eagle Talon.
RallyRight vetern Anders Green of Apex, NC and rookie co-driver Eric Alimena of Snellville, GA finished seventh overall in the Production class Mitsubishi Mighty Max.
First in Group 5 were Donal Mulleady of Bayonne, NJ and PJ Reilly of Yonkers, NY finishing ninth overall in Mulleady's newly acquired Ford Escort.
