International Rally New York 2006: Rally Cars Will Get Dirty

Monticello, New York - Some motorsport competitors and fans like the speeds and the neat, precise driving techniques of racing on pavement. For them there is track racing, and rallies such as last April’s Rally New York USA. But many others prefer the challenge and drama of competition on dirt and gravel surfaces, with the cars sliding, and throwing up a “rooster-tail” of dirt and dust. For them, Rally New York Ltd. will present International Rally New York 2006, to be held in Sullivan County, New York on September 22-23.

The heart of “the International” will be 20 special stages (races against the clock), totaling approximately 100 miles. Roughly 70% of the “stages” will be on private property, belonging to the Ten Mile River Scout Reservation. Another 30% will be on dirt roads belonging to the town of Narrowsburg. And the final two special stages will be the “Mighty M Gaming Super Specials at Monticello Raceway,” held on the horse racing track for the benefit of spectators. All special stages will be surfaced with dirt and/or gravel, so don’t be surprised if the cars emerge from the forests coated with a layer of dirt as well.

The special stages will be connected by a network of transit zones -- sections of dirt or paved public road on which competitors must motor at legal speeds.

The rally will begin in Narrowsburg, N.Y. at mid-day on September 22. It will finish at Monticello Raceway, Monticello, N.Y. on the evening of the 23rd, with a ceremonial finish, trophy presentation, and fireworks display at the track.

International Rally New York is a round of the U.S. Rally Championship (USRC), sanctioned by the United States Auto Club (USAC). All events in this series are listed as international rallies by the Federation International of the Automobile (FIA), the world governing body of motorsports. Each of the two days is also a round of the New York Rally Championship, organized by Rally New York, Ltd.
