DIVISIONAL PRO RALLY
DOO WOP 4
OLYMPIA WA. MAR. 19. 1995
Doo Wop 4 was the shorter of the two days with just four stages in the Capitol State Forest. Rui Brasil and John Elkin won this time around as Dale Beard and Richard Simmons experienced more misfiring problems with their Mazda 323 on the last two stages. Beard and Simmons still managed third overall and second in the 4WD class as well as winning the overall Doo Wop eries title for the second year in a row. Second overall and first in the Over 2 Liter class were Tim and Penny Paterson who found the fast Capitol Forest roads more to liking of their Mazda RX-7.
Doug Schrenk and Michael Leonard finished fourth overall and second in the O2L class in their SAAB Turbo. Finishing fifth overall Dave White gathered enough points in his VW Golf to take second overall in the Doo Wop Series championship. John Sparks and Vern Johnson, slowed by all kinds of problems on Doo Wop 3, redeemed themselves with sixth overall and the Under 2 Liter victory as well as the U2L class championship for the Doo Wop Series in their Toyota Corolla. Second in the U2L class went to Scott Trinder and Ben Bradley who finished ninth overall in their Suzuki Swift.
In the Regional Class 2 the usual front runners hit problems. Janice Damitio and Barry Berg lodged their Toyota Celica in the landscape and lost a lot of time. Class leaders Ralph Kosmides and Joe Noyes had it all in the bag until the battery in their Ford Escort MK2 fizzled out before the start of the last stage. By the time they got it started they had incurred twelve minutes in road penalties. With Janice losing more time than they did, however, they still took the Class 2 championship for the Doo Wop Series. The Class 2 win on this particular event went to Gary Caffroy and John Arnold who finished seventh overall in their Mazda RX-3. Second in class was scored by Jeff Call and Brent Dille in a VW Golf [Ben's Note: actually the Scott Trinder and Ben Bradley Suzuki Swift was second in class; Call and Dille where third].
Class 3 was absolutely swept by Bill Nation and Erik Thompson who won the class in all four Doo Wop rallies and took the Class 3 championship. Bonnie Hertz and Lance Guensch finished second in Class 3 followed by Jack Brodhead and Jason McCarter who drove their Datsun 510 to third in class in their first rally weekend. Jake Dekovic and Mike Blore were careful not to need reverse gear in their Toyota Starlet on their way to the Rally Lite win and 15th overall.
