Event Rank:

Drivers and Co-Drivers earn points towards the national championship, and supporting
manufacturers (Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Mazda) earn points towards overall and
class Championships.
There will also be two SCCA ClubRally events for regionally based teams.
Selected entries (driver/co-driver):

2002 Cherokee Trails overall winner David Higgins and Calvin Cooledge, Open Class 2002
Subaru Impreza WRX prepared by AV Sport. Overall Driver points leader (31 pts), Mark Lovell,
along with Co-Driver, Nick Beech in a 2002 Prodrive prepared Subaru Impreza WRX. In 2001,
this event was Mark Lovell's first top podium finish on his way to claiming the 2001 Overall
Driver's Championship.

Oregon Trail marks the second event for the all-new 2003 Open Class Hyundai Tiburons.
The Vermont based team was able to hold onto the Manufacturer's Championship lead following
Cherokee Trails despite some expected new car teething problems at Round #2 in Chattanooga,
thanks to an inspired drive by Mark Higgins, and heroic efforts by the Libra Racing crew.
Rhys Millen may be retiring his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6.5 at the conclusion of this event,
his all-new Evo VII nearly ready for a planned debut at next month's Rim of the World. A
strong finish at Oregon would give Millen a buffer heading to Round 4, allowing him time to
get the new car sorted.

West Coast favorites and crowd-pleasers: Carl Jardevall/Amity Trowbridge; Tim Paterson/John Allen,
both teams in 97 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IVs, Paul Eklund/Scott Huhn; (debut) 02 Subaru WRX.
Format:

SCCA ProRally Championship events are unlike any other national motorspo rts series in the US,
featuring flat-out competition, in any weather, on challenging forest, mountain, or desert roads,
following a format similar to that used in rally championships around the globe. At-speed rally
competition takes place on "Special Stages," using challenging back roads closed by local authorities
for the event. "Transits" connect the "Special Stage" sections together and are driven at normal
highway speeds, with teams fully subject to all traffic laws. The team with the lowest cumulative
time from the Special Stages, wins.

SCCA Performance Rally vehicles are production-based cars and trucks from manufacturers around the world.
They compete both for the overall victory and wins within a class structure that groups together vehicles
with similar performance. Each vehicle carries a driver and a co-driver/navigator. In a role as crucial
as the driver's, the co-driver uses a detailed, event organizer supplied route book and a rally computer,
keeping the team on-course and advising the driver of any hazards ahead.

Media information, Credentials, Visuals and Interviews:
Press/Photo credentials will be available at registration on Friday only. Access to press only photo
areas will require a press pass. Credentials are available only to adult members of the working press.
Media relations will be able to provide driver and co-driver interviews, event results, and other
information via telephone or e-mail. During the event, action photography and video will be possible
from special viewing areas set up along the rally course, as well as other sites. Drivers, co-drivers
and crew members will be accessible throughout the event, including Friday's Press Stage and Scrutineering,
Saturday's Parc Expose at the start of the rally, and at the Tillamook Service. Friday Press Stage Details

An informal opportunity for members of the working press to meet with the stars of SCCA ProRally, and see
the cars contesting for top honors. All interested Media personnel are requested to meet at the host Hotel
at 11:00 AM sharp for the press stage location. Attending Press do not need to be Credentialed prior to
leaving for the stage, but will need to sign a waiver at the stage. This is a closed press stage, presented
exclusively for members of the Press, Supporting Manufacturer representatives, specific team sponsors and
area VIP's. Rides in rally cars may be available, but will be handled purely on an individual request basis
with the teams and drivers.

SCCA® ProRally Championship
Round #3 - Oregon Trail

Start Order & Late Breaking News:

HILLSBORO, Oregon A record starting lineup of 79 performance rally cars from
North America and the world are slated to begin the Oregon Trail SCCA ProRally at
11:00 AM Saturday morning, following a one-hour Parc Expose at the Hillsboro Stadium,
in Hillsboro, Oregon, just 20 miles due west of downtown Portland, Oregon. While still
early in the season, serious overall drivers and manufacturers points chases have
already developed; victors of this event will hold an important strategic advantage
heading into round 4 - the notoriously brutal Rim of the World Rally (May 3-4).

Selected Entries, News

Oregon Trail is the first West Coast stop on the 10-event SCCA ProRally circuit this
season, with several teams headquartered west of the Rockies making their season debuts.
Among the notables are Oregonians Paul Eklund and Scott Huhn, with their all-new,
independently developed 02 Subaru WRX; Carl Jardevall with Washington native
Amity Trowbridge, 97 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV; and Californian Jay Streets with
Washingtonian Janice Damitio, in the ex-Jardevall but always crowd pleasing "school bus"
Volvo 740, possibly the largest car being rallied in North America - if not the world.

David Higgins, the first independent entry to win an SCCA ProRally Championship event since
Richard Tuthill's convincing win at Wild West last September, has drawn the top seed starting
position for this weekend's rally. Since last month's brutal round in Tennessee, Higgins has
changed co-drivers - former co-driver Calvin Cooledge taking a plum job with a rally team in
Australia being replaced by veteran co-driver Chris Patterson. Also swapping co-drivers for
Oregon Trail is Subaru's 2001 Driver's Champion Mark Lovell, who will contest this round with
Nicholas Beech.

"Stage Notes" make their debut at this round - an important competition advancement in the
SCCA ProRally Championship, that allows teams to use a highly detailed set of route
instructions - in place of the more basic 'tulip' graphical style of instructions that have
been used in this country for decades. Created just prior to the event in real-time by a
specially designed computer that rides along in a car with a specially trained driver and
navigator, the notes are an intermediary step between the "blind" rallying that is commonplace
in the USA, and "pace noted" rallying that is customary around the world. Highly anticipated by
the rallying community, more than two-thirds of the field will be trying them out this weekend.
Weather forecast: This year's running of Oregon Trail was delayed by two weeks following advice
from the Forestry Service - statistically, it doesn't rain much on the third weekend of April in
this part of Oregon, and after last year's extraordinary concoction of rain, sleet, hail, snow
and sunshine, at least once with all of that occurring on one stage, the Organizers decided to
take the advice and change the event date. And it appears that was the right move to make - after
a full week of snow and rain, the skies have cleared, and the forecast calls for partly cloudy
to sunny weather in the mid to upper 40's all weekend long - perfect for rallying, and for spectating.

Information regarding the start order list:
Car # = number on vehicle. Cars with numbers under 200 are Pro entries. Car numbered over 200 are
generally ClubRally (regional) entrants, with first digit denoting their home division
(2,3 = West coast, 5 = Central US, 8,9 East coast). Group = Vehicle category: Open, Gr N - fastest;
are cars with considerable modifications; P (Production) - slowest; are cars very near showroom stock
configuration. G5 - two wheel drive high HP cars; G2 - two wheel drive lower horsepower cars;
GT - high horsepower production (stock) cars. Entry = event entered. Nat= SCCA ProRally,

SCCA® ProRally Championship
Round #3 - Oregon Trail

Day One Results and News:

HILLSBORO, Oregon Cooperative weather and an surprisingly large batch of mechanical
woes shuffled the top deck of the field in Day One of the Oregon Trail Rally, placing
independent driver David Higgins on the top of the heap, while brother Mark, who set
blistering stage times in his Hyundai early on, was setback with recurring transmission
woes after SS5. 2001 Champion Mark Lovell had a driveshaft fail on his Subaru, and
multi-time drivers and co-drivers champions Paul Choiniere and Jeff Becker also wound
up watching the rally from the sidelines when their transmission came apart in SS3.

Key Notes & Quotes:
"It's a clear indication that we are all running really hard" said Jeff Becker
at this afternoon's service at the Tillamook Blimp Hanger and Air Museum, when
asked about the high number of mechanical failures many teams that run the full
season Championship has been experiencing lately. 'We're all asking everything
from our cars and crews - so things are bound to break."

Adding to the intense pressure on teams at Oregon Trail is the highly anticipated
debut of Stage Noting - a new route instruction "language" to the vast majority
of USA teams, but one that is familiar to many in the world-wide sport of rallying.
Stage Noting, as it is called here, presents competitors with a highly detailed set
of coded route instructions, vs the traditional graphical 'tulip' style of route
booking used in the USA for decades. This new feature has nearly everyone rallying
this weekend scrambling to learn the new process, but with good results. The overall
competition is closer than ever.

An unexpectedly high turnout of spectators caused some early event delays as course
marshals were kept busy ensuring that the course remained clear for the competitors.
No stages were cancelled however, and the crowds estimated by several sources to be
in the thousands, were all given a great show of SCCA ProRallying by both the stars
of the national championship and the large array of local favorites entered in the Event.

Among the local stars, Carl Jardevall and Amity Trowbridge shown brightest, running
as high as 3rd place overall in today's competition. Paul Eklund and Scott Huhn,
debuting their all-new and un-tested Subaru WRX had minor clutch and brake problems,
and were unable to keep a leading pace for much of the day.

In the overall standings, Ralph Kosmides of Newport Beach CA leads the FIA Group N
category, by nearly 1.25 minutes over Tempe AZ's Peter Workum. Local favorites Dave
and Rick Hintz lead the Group 5 class in their RX-7 turbo over fellow RX-7 driver
Carey Wright by approximately 45 seconds. Production GT is being lead by Greg Linglebach
over Mika Lepisto also by an approximate 45 second margin - neither of these two class
leaders will be able to relax tomorrow. On the other hand, Josh Jacquot and Dave Coleman,
driving Hyundai's all new 2003 Tiburon on its maiden voyage, are leading the Production
class by a handy 2-minute margin over nearest competitor Jeff Field and Dave Wieman, in
a 2002 Toyota Celica GT-S.

Group 2, the popular small displacement (2-litre) two-wheel drive class, frequently has
close competition, and this event is no exception. Scott Fuller and Jeff Call have been
waging a real grinder between their independently entered VW Golf GTi and the Mitsubishi
backed 2002 Lancer RMR of Lauchlin O'Sullivan and Matt Chester. Leading by a scant 13
seconds, this 9-car class has several contenders in the wings, so both these combatants
will be driving hard, but watching their mirrors, as they rally the final stages in
tomorrow's competition.

Day two of the Oregon Trail Rally begins tomorrow at 8:00 AM from the West Coast Hotel
in Hillsboro. A total of 5 stages will be run Sunday, several known for excellent
spectating, with cars returning to Hillsboro in the early afternoon.

SCCA® ProRally Championship
Round #3 - Oregon Trail

Day Two Results and News
David Higgins Captures Top Podium

HILLSBORO, Oregon - The second day of rally action in the high country of western
Oregon saw another round of intense performance rallying, culminating with a
satisfying victory for the young driver and his new to SCCA ProRally co-driver
Chris Patterson. Rhys Millen finally earned a podium spot he has been yearning to
visit again since last November, and Mark Higgins placed Hyundai back on the podium
with another determined drive. Keeping all the works teams honest were Carl Jardevall
with Amity Trowbridge, local competitors that know the roads well, finishing just 59
seconds behind the 3rd place Hyundai.

Key Notes & Quotes:
Rhys Millen equaled his best finish of the 2001 season with a solid 2nd place finish,
just 40 seconds behind Higgin's WRX. Pushing his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6.5 - a car he
admits has "been through hell" - as hard as he dared, Millen won three stages outright
over David Higgins, and kept solid pace on the balance. At the evening prize giving
ceremonies Rhys thanked his crew for overcoming a lot of developmental problems since
Round 2, and also congratulated his co-driver Garry Cowan for his patience as he came
to grips with the stage notes, and urged all in attendance to stick with the notes -
calling it "the future of the sport."

For a second event in a row, Hyundai's Mark Higgins and Michael Gibson have shown absolute
resolve in the face of adversity, coming back from a transmission failure that put him
several minutes behind in SS4 and SS5. While similar transmission problems sidelined
Paul Choiniere, the crew was able to get the 8-time champion's car operational again
overnight, and the event Organizer's allowed Choiniere to run the balance of the event
as the course opening car. This gave the Libra Racing team and driver some much needed
seat time with the all-new cars, and gave rally fans a chance to see and hear these state
of the art rally cars up close and at speed.

After three rounds, with both good and bad luck impacting all three Overall Championship
works teams, as well as the leading Independents, the points race heading to the Championship's
most brutal event, the legendary Rim of the World in the Angeles National Forest encompassing
Palmdale, California is still tight, with the Higgins brothers beginning to establish a more
secure hold on the lead and 2nd place. Unofficial standings for the overall Driver's Championship
are: David Higgins: 45, Mark Higgins: 38 and Mark Lovell: 32. Rhys Millen's strong finish makes
him the big gainer of the weekend, displacing Subaru's Lagemann for 4th place in the standings,
with 24 points.

The Overall Manufacturer's Championship has been thrown a totally unexpected curve, with the
retirement of both works Subarus and Millen's strong podium showing at Oregon. Unofficial
standings after three rounds are: Hyundai 40, Mitsubishi 29 and Subaru 27. Mitsubishi will
be adding a third car to their team at Rim, with Rhys debuting the teams all new Evo VII,
and Rhys' father, rally legend Rod Millen, returning to the SCCA ProRally Championship at
Round #4 in two weeks.

The Two-wheel-drive Manufacturer's Championship likewise is being overturned, with Mitsubishi
taking over the lead from an absent Mazda, 40 to 32. Mazda will be back in the hunt with an
upgraded MP3 Protégé at Rim of the World.
