Portland, Oregon -- The organizers of the Oregon Trail ProRally have changed both the date and headquarters location for the event coming this April. The new date for the event will be the weekend of April 19th-21st. Registration, technical inspection, a press stage and welcoming events will take place on Friday, April 19th, with the rally to run in the Coast Range mountains on the 20th and 21st.
The group also announced a move of the headquarters for the event. For the last two years, the Oregon Trail ProRally has called Tillamook home, but for this year's event, the organizers felt a change was in order. The 2002 event will be based in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro. "We have simply outgrown Tillamook, as far as the size of our event is concerned. In 2001, we filled every available hotel room for 15 miles north and south of Tillamook, as well as every room in town," said Oregon Rally Group's Chairman Matt Tabor. "This year, we have a greater need of space, both for competitors and organizers. We do, however, plan to make extensive use of the area around Tillamook as those are some of the finest rally roads in the nation."
Hillsboro, a suburb located approximately 20 miles west of downtown Portland, will provide better access to resources such as hotel rooms, repair shops and major airline service. Portland International Airport is approximately 30 miles away, and is connected to the Hillsboro area by "MAX," Portland's light rail system. Access to Hillsboro via major highways is also a plus for the location. An exact hotel location will be announced shortly. "We have a hotel in mind, just off the MAX line, with plenty of parking available nearby," said event chairman Ben Bradley. "We just need to formalize the details before making an official announcement."
