Start Order & Late Breaking News:
SCCA® ProRallysm Championship Round 2 - Rim of the World

PALMDALE, California- A record starting lineup of 80 performance rally
cars (with a waiting list) from North America and the world are slated to
begin the two-day Rim of the World Rally at 7:00 PM Friday evening, following
an open to the public Parc Expose of all the rally cars at the Peloma Park
in Palmdale. The rally cars return to Palmdale after midnight, and restart
the second day of rallying at noon on Saturday, following a morning of
rally festivities including a charity auction and second Parc Expose of
all the cars entered.

Selected Entries, News
· The long break since Round 1 in January has been very well spent by
many of the teams in preparation of the brutal mid-season schedule with the
SCCA ProRally Championship making up for lost time in the spring with five
back-to-back events with transcontinental trips between most in July and
August (Pikes Peak, Oregon Trail, Maine Forest, Ojibwe Forests and Wild
West). Rim of the World, by virtue of its one-month break before
Round 3 - Susquehannock Trail in June, is serving up its famously brutal
road conditions as a shake down for the rest of the Championship. If a
car survives here, it's likely to have the mettle to survive the rest of the
season.

· Subaru/Prodrive, coming off a character building 2002, and a disastrous
season start at Sno*Drift, needs a great weekend here to kick start
their program - and are poised to do just that with all-new cars and a
substantially revised servicing layout. The cars that are making their world
competition debut today did well in this week's extensive testing, with nary a hint
of the engine and transmission troubles that plagued the team throughout
the 2002 season, allowing Prodrive's technicians to focus on suspension
setup for the best compromise on Rim's rough roads. The 2001
driver/co-driver champion team of Mark Lovell and Steve Turvey, reunited here this
weekend, finished 2nd at Rim last year, following a dramatic downhill roll-over
on Day One which left the car a wrinkled mess, but sharpened their resolve
for a strong finish. Teammate Ramana Lagemann with Michael Orr,
following his successful World Rally debut at New Zealand in April, are ready for
a strong finish as well.

· Mitsubishi also had a difficult showing here last year, but is on a
roll with their all-new Lancer Evolutions, leading the manufacturers' and
driver's championships. This will be their first time up against the all-new
Subarus, and if they are quick out of the box, a two-day long sprint race can be
expected. Both drivers have a great leading hand here - David Higgins won here
last year in his debut at Rim, and teammate Lauchlin O'Sullivan returns to
his home event; last year he was the top finishing two-wheel drive car,
winning his class for Mitsubishi, finishing12th overall.

· Group N will be one of the supporting classes to watch this weekend.
The closely-matched all-wheel drive and turbocharged Subarus and
Mitsubishis, are only allowed minimal modifications from showroom stock condition,
making them ideal for Rim's tight, twisty ridge-top roads. The teams
are from all over the USA, with class leaders Mark Utecht and Jeff Secor
from Minnesota, Shane Mitchell and Paul Donnelly from New York, Mark Cox and
Jim Gill from Colorado, and making his season debut, Newport Beach, CA
native Ralph Kosmides with Michigan's Jimmy Brandt.

· Weather forecast: the conditions this weekend are a nearly 180-degree
switch from last year, when tinder dry conditions were the greatest
concern. Ample rains in the past weeks have turned the typically grey mountains
a lush green, and dust, at least for the first cars on the road, will be
minimal. Rain remains in the forecast for much of the weekend, but now
only scattered showers with cool daytime and chilly evening temperatures
  are expected.

Information regarding the start order list:
Car # = number on vehicle. Cars with numbers under 200 are Pro entries.
Car numbered over 200 are generally ClubRally (regional) entrants, with
first digit denoting their home division (2,3 = West coast, 4,5 6 =
Central US, 7,8,9 = East coast).
Class = Vehicle category: Open, Gr N - fastest; are cars with considerable
modifications; P (Production) - slowest; are cars very near showroom
stock configuration. G5 - two wheel drive high HP cars; G2 - two wheel drive
lower horsepower cars; GT - high horsepower production (stock) cars.
Seed = Driver ranking:  0, 1 are most experienced/quickest, 8 are rookie
(ClubRally) entrants

SCCA ProRally Championship - Round 2 - Rim of the World

David Higgins Leads a Soggy Rally - Day One Results and News

PALMDALE, California - Defending event and SCCA ProRally Drivers' Champion
David Higgins jumped ahead of both Mark Lovell and Ramana Lagemann in the late stages
of Day One of the 20th Rim of the World Rally, Round Two of the SCCA ProRally
Championship. Unusual for Southern California cold and wet conditions existed
throughout the evening and night stages, eliminating the traditional high dust problems
typically encountered along the ridge-top roads of the Angeles National Forest.

Key Notes & Quotes:
Arriving at the Pelona Park Service in third place following the opening
three stages, Higgins and co-driver Daniel Barritt stepped up their assault on
the leading Subaru WRX of Mark Lovell. The 2002 champions were lightning-quick in
stages four and five placing his Mitsubishi Rally Team USA Lancer Evolution into the
overall lead by 0.78-minute over early leader Mark Lovell.
"We ran well the last two stages," said Higgins. "The weather conditions
never got any better. In the last stage, it was more slippery than Sno*Drift. They
were so disgusting that we're just looking forward to tomorrow."
Subaru Rally Team USA driver Lovell led the rally into the service break
through three stages that included rain, fog and rough terrain, but he fell
behind in his Subaru WRX in the fourth and fifth stages to Higgins. Lovell's teammate
Lagemann was second going into stage four, but became high-centered on a berm and
lost 10 minutes to leader Higgins while fellow Subaru WRX driver Jonny Milner
towed him out Lagemann's car required minor repairs to the rear suspension and
bodywork, but was able to continue on.

2002 Group 2 Manufacturers' and Drivers' Champion Lauchlin O'Sullivan,
this time running his home rally in an Open Class Evolution for Mitsubishi Rally
Team USA, finished a strong third with substitute co-driver Christian Edstrom.

Leon Styles, driving an independently-entered Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
VI, was consistently quick and was fourth after the first stage, followed by
George Plsek in a similarly-prepared Lancer Evolution VI.

Despite the excessively slippy conditions the rains brought, there were
some entrants who gained significant road position throughout the evening. Hard
Chargers of the night included Eric MaCaire and Urmas Kask, who started the rally in 30th
position, and finished Day One in 12th overall, (leading the Production GT class) and
Charlie Aoun and Paul Nelson, who started 52nd and finished in 23rd, good enough for
2nd place overall in the popular Group 2 Class.

The hotly contested Group N category lists Shane Mitchell's Subaru WRX
leading after five stages. Championship points leader Mark Utecht slid to third place
following a common Rim of the World malady - a car-sick co-driver.

Group 5 had the highest attrition of the evening, (Streets, Havas and
Olson retiring) and class leader Doug Shepherd (Dodge SRT 4) nearly ended his evening,
recovering from a dramatic downhill rollover in SS 3.

The final 10 stages of the 2003 Rim of the World SCCA ProRally event will
begin Saturday at Noon . For more information, please visit www.scca.com or

SCCA® ProRallysm Championship - Round 2 - Rim of the World

Day Two Results and News
Higgins, Mitsubishi Dominate Rain Shortened Rally

PALMDALE, Calif. - For the second time in as many events, weather was the major
story of the SCCA ProRally Championship, the torrential rains and sloppy road
conditions playing well into the hands of the 2002 Driver's champion's experience
from his Welsh homeland. David Higgins, along with co-driver, Daniel Barritt, took
the win in their Mitsubishi Rally Team USA Lancer Evolution. Former series Champion
Mark Lovell and co-driver Steve Turvey finished second in Subaru Rally
Team USA's all new WRX.

Key Notes & Quotes:
"This is the one that every one wants to win-it's a little more special because all the
manufacturers are out here," said Higgins, who started off his 2002 Championship run by
winning the first four events. "There is a lot of hospitality with lots of guests, so it's
good to win for Mitsubishi at Rim of the World. It's also great to have my teammate get
his first podium finish with the team. It's a shame that the event was cut short, since the
last stage was the best one-you could really attack it."

"I couldn't picture the weather ever being like this," said Mitsubishi Rally Team USA
teammate and Californian O'Sullivan, who finished fourth at Sno*Drift. "My experience and
knowledge of rallying really helped me back off and finish third."

After initial stages Friday night run in damp conditions with numerous patches of thick fog;
heavy rain set in prior to the Saturday stages, creating soft, muddy conditions on the
remaining 10 special stages of the 15-stage event. After evaluating the route, the promoter
elected to run only three special stages on Saturday. "The Rim of the World organizer has
been faced with some extraordinary challenges and has made sound decisions based on the
environmental conditions," said Kurt Spitzner, SCCA Performance Rally Director. The only
stages run Saturday were at Del Sur North, Del Sur South and Leona Ridge.

After the initial three stages, things looked great for Subaru's debut of its new 2004
Impreza WRX, with Lovell leading teammate Ramana Lagemann. Subaru's fortunes began to soften
late in Day One, when Lagemann high-centered on a berm and lost a full 10 minutes to Higgins,
who snatched the lead from Lovell. "We were caught off-guard by the weather conditions," said
Lovell. "We had a great car for dry conditions, but we made the wrong tire choice and it
cost us. You'd think of all teams, we, being from England, would be prepared for these
conditions, but we weren't."

In a great drive in an independently-entered Mitsubishi Evo VI, independent Leon Styles
finished a career-best fourth overall. "The race played into my hands," said Styles. "I
like wet roads and these fit my style. We never did anything wrong."

Shane Mitchell and Paul Donnelly finished fifth overall and first in Group N in their AV
Sport/Piermont Iron Works Subaru WRX, significantly tightening the emerging championship
battle with points leader Mark Utecht. 2002 Group N Champions Ralph Kosmides & Jimmy Brandt
made their season debut this weekend, and drove a smartly paced event, keeping the pressure
on both Mitchell and points leader Utecht, setting the stage for an intense mid-season sprint.

The Manufacturer's Championships: Subaru earned its first championship points this weekend,
with Lovell's strong second place serving notice to Mitsubishi that it cant let its guard
down. In two-wheel drive, Eric Burmeister gets Mazda on the board, and Christopher Whiteman
became Dodge's breadwinner, with Doug Shepherd's last minute DNF (broken halfshaft at the
start line of final stage) scotching their plans for a 2WD overall win with the powerful
Group 5 SRT-4.

The SCCA ProRally Championship switches coasts for Round 3, heading to the lush eastern
