The weather was warm in Lake Hughes, a small mountain community near Palmdale, California. Organizers Lon Peterson, Dan Hook, Bob and Adrienne Scott and Art Skaggs.
As the Subarus had flat tires and some overheating woes the Volvo of Bill Malik was the class of the field. Ironically, his friend Ken Smith came out from a six year layoff to place first in class and second overall in his 100,000 mile old Mazda 323GTX. Dennis Chizma and John Moore flogged the performance stock field, nursing a broken sway bar and a bad transmission all the way home. Second in performance stock, driving his first rally in Lon Peterson's Kia, was Sport Compact Car magazine editor Larry Saavedra, who was impressive on the tight and twisty roads. Bobby Webb and Tim Sardelich were the stock class winners after a long battle with Mike Marcy and Steve Scott all day. While winning the class she was making a good case for someone buying the car which is for sale.
The next California Rally Series event will be November 18th, the East of Indio Rally.
