NEWRY, ME — David Sterckx (Belgium) and Karen Jankowski (California) of David Sterckx Rally Sport Team, in their fifth event of the Rally America 2012 season, finished 2nd in the Super Production class at the New England Forest Rally and 7th overall. Since this is their third SP podium of the season, it now means the SP class championship will all come down to the last event of the season, September’s Olympus Rally. The team is now up to second place in the Championship in only the first year together in the Rally America Series. “After the total heartbreak of the last rally, STPR when the turbo broke, it is so satisfying to finish well this weekend,” stated David. “With a new car, new team, and new roads for us, I am quite pleased how we are doing this year. With just one event left we are still in the Championship hunt.” The team’s crew did an outstanding job keeping the car on the road all weekend. A special thanks to crew chief Don Jankowski, Ken Nowak, Jesse Lewis, Benjamin Berlew, Jason Christopher Cummings, and Zach Nason. Now the team’s focus is to the last event of the season which is the Olympus Rally which takes place in Olympia, Washington in late September. This year’s stages return "home" to some of the same roads used when it was a World Rally Championship event. “It will be my third time competing at Olympus rally but every year I have competed has taken place using totally different roads,” explained Karen. “There seems to be so much buzz and excitement this year because they will be using some of the same roads as when it was a WRC event. As a team we have learned so much this year, I am so excited with all we have accomplished. With the championship all coming down to the last event of the season, you couldn’t ask for a more exciting finish to the year!”
The team would like to thank the following people for all of their support:
