PW Rallysport is a first year ProRally team. The team consists of Chris Whiteman, driver and car owner, and Mike Paulin, co-driver.
Chris Whiteman is not a stranger to motorsport competition. Chris competed in motocross racing for almost 10 years. During those years Chris completed in state, national and international motocross events including the Supercross series. Chris had to retire from motocross racing because of a back injury. Chris became interested in rallying while attending Michigan Tech University and meeting, then roommate, Eric Burmeister. Before starting PW Rallysport, Chris worked on the Burmeister Rallysport service crew for two seasons.
Mike Paulin is a newcomer to the motorsport world. Mike became interested in rallying after working on the Burmeister Rallysport service crew at the 2000 SnoDrift ProRally. Mike said, "I didn't know much about the sport, then Chris approached me to co-drive if he built a car. Now I'm hooked."
"Rallying uses many of the same techniques as motocross. You have to read the surface, pick good lines and be smooth and fluid through the corners," Whiteman explained.
After a disappointing debut at the Cherokee Trails International Rally, PW Rallysport plans to be back at it for the Susquehannock Trail ProRally in June. "Cherokee was a great experience and a huge disappointment. We learned a lot about communication and how the car handles but we were time barred because we missed an instruction in the route book. Our times were competitive, we even set the fastest time in Group 2 on stage 8," explained Whiteman.
PW Rallysport will be completing in a shortened schedule consisting of the eastern United States events this season.
