Lancaster/Palmdale, California -- The Sacramento California based Jagged Edge Motorsports Team of Driver Sans Thompson-Wilbanks and Co-Driver of Paul Nelson from Diamond Springs, California held on to finish 8th in the Rim of the World Rally at Lancaster, CA on May 7-8, 2004.
The Rim of the World Rally is considered to be the toughest and roughest rally in North America with 80 cars starting and only 20 finishing. "Just finishing this rally is all we were really aiming for especially after rolling the car into a drainage ditch in Oregon 2 weeks ago" stated Sans. "Unfortunately for us, everybody in our class, Production GT finished, so being conservative was not the right way for us" Sans continued. "We figured it out too late to catch back up so we then tried for a finish and whatever points we could gain" Sans explained.
"To say that this rally is a rough on is an understatement" Team Manager Karen Wagner says, "I think we changed every suspension piece at least once and without Tom Laeng and the LaengWorks Crew who prepared and maintained the car for this event, I doubt that we could have finished as well as we did."
The rally hosted a car show, vendor fair, and (rarely seen in America) 4 side-by-side "Super Special" stages held at the new fair grounds in Lancaster, CA. "The Super Special stages were really great, wish we did more of that for longer periods of time" says Sans, "it really tests your patience and in the case of this course, either being decidedly in front of the car next to you, or way back, because of dust and mud in sections they kept very wet, it was very important to analyze what you were going to accomplish before starting."
Sans and Karen of the Jagged Edge Motorsports Team wish to thank Tom Laeng and his family, co-driver Paul Nelson, and the entire LaengWorks Team for the dedication, help, and support for what was a difficult few weeks. "We have left the car in Hesperia, CA at the LaengWorks Shop to get it ready for our next event in Maine in the first week of August. We will miss the events in Pennsylvania and Pikes Peak in Colorado while we go about replenishing the budget and trying to line up sponsorship for the remainder of the season," says Sans "the East Coast events are quite expensive for us, fuel and time wise, so we will drop the next 2 events to try and maximize our position for the remainder of the season."
Jagged Edge Motorsports would also like to thanks the following supporters and friends: Bruce Davis & Motorsports Marketing, YachtTech, Strambi Racing, Wes & Waylin Carpenter (graphics), LaengWorks, Chad DiMarco, and Craig Marr.
