Bemidji, Minnesota -- Primitive Racing's Paul Eklund, one of the top open class drivers of the SCCA ProRally championship, took top honors at the Triple Caution Charity RallyCross, precursor to the Ojibwe Forests ProRally. The RallyCross was held at the Bemidji Speedway, with all proceeds going to the Twin Cities Autism Society. The rally will be round 6 of the SCCA ProRally Championship, and runs Friday, August 25 and Saturday, August 26, 2000.
Eklund, from Tigard, Oregon, ran Silverstone S525s on his custom built 1995 Impreza "USX", which features a 2.2 liter turbocharged and intercooled motor, upgraded to an estimated 275 hp. The Primitive Racing Subaru Impreza also features Drummond Motor Sports 50mm Giant Struts, and an Electromotive Engine Management system.
Eklund took first overall in the 20-car field; many of those entered are also set to compete in this weekend's Ojibwe Forests ProRally, which begins Friday afternoon. Eklund will continue to run the Silverstone tyres throughout the event, and has high hopes of a podium finish. The Primitive team consists of driver Paul Eklund, and co-driver Scott Huhn of Seattle, Washington. Morrie's Subaru, Drummond Motorsports, Taylor Made Labels, and T-Scandia Motors sponsor the team.
Silverstone Rally Tyres are sold in the United States by the Tabor Rally Team (West Linn, Oregon), and are available in 13-, 14-, and 15-inch rim diameters and in three tread patterns. The S525s that Eklund will use on his Subaru are directional-type rally tyres, available in 15-inch diameter, and in two tread widths.
