Waterloo, Ontario -- Parry Sound, Ontario is the setting for the 4th round of the Ontario Performance Rally Championship, and the Two AM Rallysport team is all set to grab some more points. Late September is a beautiful time of year in northern Ontario but it's unlikely that the driver/co-driver team of Andrew Miller and Martyn Appleford will have a chance to admire the leaves this coming Saturday. They will be inside a 1995 VW Golf rally car barrelling down closed backwoods roads as fast as they can.
The 2000 Rally Of The Voyageurs takes place September 30 on roads owned by the Ministry of Natural Resources north of Parry Sound. These roads, which are closed to public traffic by special permit, will be where the Two AM Rallysport team hopes to obtain the lead in the Production Sport class of the Ontario Performance Rally Championship. Miller and Appleford both go into this event 3rd in their respective categories only 5 points out of the lead.
Almost 170 km of racing will be done on Saturday and with 39 cars taking place, the competition will be fierce. "I'm really looking forward to this event," says Miller, "it's open and fast but the loose surface rewards clean driving and a well handling car. We should do well."
The Ontario Performance Rally Championship, which consists of 5 events run from February to November, is about the most challenging racing series in Ontario. Teams compete in timed runs over narrow twisty closed roads at high speeds.
Two AM Rallysport competes in the Production Sport class with help from its sponsors AM Innovations Inc., Volkswagen Waterloo, Dave's Tire Discounter, and Pennzoil 10 Minute Oil Change Center.
