Rocket Rally Racing Crosses Continent in Bid to Maintain Points Lead

VANCOUVER, BC -- It is a 5,800-kilometre transit between stages for Rocket Rally Racing. The team headed out from Vancouver on July 1 and made it to Montreal today, en route to the Gaspe Peninsula in eastern Quebec for Rallye Baie des Chaleurs, which begins July 7.

The team pulled into Montreal today to repair its 1998 Subaru Impreza RS at Subaru Lachute. The team had rolled the car at Rocky Mountain Rally at the end of May. While Dave Clark, Rocket Rally Crew Chief, was able to repair the major damage to the car, the team discovered, after a shakedown test run last week, that the motor needed to be replaced. There was no time to fix it before heading out to the event, so the team hopes to fix it in Quebec. "The guys at Subaru Lachute are doing all they can to get the new motor installed," says Pat Richard, Rocket Rally Driver. "They've been great. I only hope they have enough time."

It's critical for the team to race in this event. The team is the current Production GT points leader in the 2000 Subaru Canadian Rally Championship, the SCCA ProRally Championship and the North American Rally Cup, but it will have to win its class at Baie des Chaleurs in order to maintain that top standing. "It's going to be a close fight. We expect some strong American entries at Baie des Chaleurs," says Ian McCurdy, Rocket Rally Navigator.

The expected 3,000 fans at this event will be able to take advantage of Rocket Rally Racing's Photographer's Contingency Program, in which photographers who submit the best action shots of Rocket Rally Car can win cash prizes of up to $100. This contest is open to both amateur and professional photographers. "We've received many great photos from people, we're very pleased with how well the contest has been received," says McCurdy.

Rocket Rally Racing is supported by Specialty Subaru of North Vancouver, Drummond Motor Sport, SPD Tuning Services and Dragon Eyewear.
