Orillia, Ontario -- Two AM Rallysport took top honours in the Production 3 class at this past weekend's "Swift Rapids Rally". And coming in a very respectable 4th overall was quite an accomplishment for the team especially since they were facing the toughest rally road this province has to offer.
With no less than 176 twists and turns in a scant 12.3 kilometres this rally (which uses the road 4 times) is one of the hardest there is on man and machine. "We certainly couldn't have asked for a better run", said Andrew Miller, team owner/driver. And considering that some sort of major dilemma befell 50% of the field they were just happy to have made it through unscathed.
Team co-driver Rebecca Miller had this to say, "I'm constantly amazed at what the Two AM Rallysport VW Golf can put up with; this road gives the car quite a pounding. Yet all we had to do was tighten one suspension bolt at the service halt and we came through without a hitch". In truth that was not the only problem the team suffered, a broken electrical connection left them without an intercom for the last stage. "We got the Hand signals worked out really quick!" Rebecca admitted later.
The next event, The Rally Of The Voyageurs in Parry Sound Ont., will see a guest driver filling in for Andrew as he has taken on an Organizers role for this national level event. The team is working on a deal with a top name driver to take the seat and put their VW through its paces.
The Ontario Performance Rally Championship, consists of 5 events, runs from February to November. Two AM Rallysport competes in the P3 class in a 1995 VW Golf with help from their sponsors, Volkswagen Waterloo, Dave's Tire Discounter, Frisco Auto Parts, Pennzoil 10 Minute Oil Change Centre and AM Innovations Inc.
