Alexandria, Virginia -- RallySport, Inc will be putting its newly developed 2001 Mazda Protégé through the paces at Sandhills Sandblast clubrally in Cheraw, SC. "The car has been under development for a long time and I’m really excited to finally see the car at a rally." Commented RallySport president Sumit Panjabi.
The last outing for a RallySport sponsored car was at Defi-Ste. Agathe which ended in disappointment after engine overheating prevented the team from starting the second day.
The car will be piloted by 2001 NEDIV Gr5 2nd place winner Nui Srisook, also a principal in RallySport and co-driven by Tim Meyer, a recent entry to the Washington DC Region Performance Rally program
The Protégé is a new addition to the fleet of rallycars that RallySport will make available as low cost rental alternatives through out the year at the events. The Protégé is a great platform for a rally car and Eric Burmeister displayed that by secuing a 2nd place in the Group 2 battle in the SCCA ProRally Championship. It joins the RallySport 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage also in Group 2 trim.
