Thousand Oaks, California -- The Widget Rally Team announced today that their partnership with Porterfield Brakes will continue through the 2001 season and be extended for all of 2002 as well. Porterfield Brakes, headquartered in Costa Mesa, California, is a leading supplier of Performance Friction products. "We supply brakes to thousands of road racers and Solo II competitors," said Andy Porterfield, " so when John approached me back in '99 to sponsor a rally car, it seemed like a natural extension to try. Since then we've been quite pleased with all the TV exposure the the team has received. We want to continue to be a part of their success."
SCCA ProRally is enjoying unprecedented growth in the U.S., thanks in part to extensive prime-time coverage of events on the Speedvision cable TV network. Rally is one of the most popular forms of motorsports in the world, but until recently was largely unrecognized in this country. "ProRally is approaching critical mass," notes Widget co-driver John Dillon. "More and more viewers are tuning into our races and discovering how exciting these events can be." By sponsoring Widget International at rally events all across North America, Porterfield Brakes will receive plenty of exposure, not only for rally competitors, but for the multitude of fans who also prefer superior performance braking products.
Even before joining the Widget team, driver Lauchlin O'Sullivan used Porterfield pads exclusively. "I do a lot of left-foot braking, so the brakes really have to hold up. Nothing has proven more reliable, durable, and consistent than Porterfield pads." His co-driver adds "With these brakes Lauchlin can drive with confidence. He doesn't have to ask himself 'will they work this time?' so we can dive deeper into the corners before jumping on the binders. Paradoxically, having better brakes means we're quicker on the stages."
The Widget International Rally Team plans to campaign the full 2002 National season in the SCCA ProRally series, as well as running several events in Canada. At every race Performance Friction pads, supplied by Porterfield Brakes, will give the team the stopping power they need to go faster.
