Vancouver, BC -- Rocket Rally Racing is looking to sweep top class honours at this weekend's Lake Superior ProRally near Houghton, Michigan. This event, the final round of the 2000 SCCA ProRally Championship, will determine the winner of the SCCA Production GT Co-Driver's Championship. Rocket Rally Racing has already won the SCCA Production GT Driver's Championship and the SCCA Production GT Manufacturer's Championship for Subaru. Co-Driver Ben Bradley is leading the championship right now, but just barely. "Bill Westrick is close behind me. Due to the way the points system works, I need to win the class in this event, or at least make sure he doesn't win," says Bradley. Westrick and driver Steven Gingras are the 1997 and 1998 Production GT champions. "I'm going to try my best for Ben," says Patrick Richard, Rocket Rally Driver. "It would be great to pay him back for an excellent season, and particularly to thank him for bringing me my first ever scratch time back at Wild West, on some stages that were extremely demanding on the co-driver."
"I hope the stages at Lake Superior get very slippery, like last year.
We can capitalize on icy and snowy conditions to minimize our power
disadvantage against the more powerful cars in our class."
But not too slippery. "We have to be careful and a bit conservative,
because we need to preserve the car for Rallye International de
Charlevoix the following weekend," says Richard. Charlevoix is the
longest and largest event rally in the North American Rally Cup. A class
win at Charlevoix will regain the class lead for Richard in the hotly
contested Subaru Canadian Rally Championship.
Heading to the event in style:
For the first time this year, Rocket Rally Racing will be fully equipped
with a brand new (still un-painted!) service vehicle, courtesy of
DMS-USA and Dave Clark Motorsports. "The success of Rocket Rally Racing
and its ability to showcase and promote the DMS Shock Absorber products have
dramatically increased DMS's penetration of the American and Canadian
marketplaces," says Dave Clark of DMS-USA. Rocket Rally Racing's phenomenal
season has made possible with the assistance of DMS Shock Absorbers,
Specialty Subaru of North Vancouver, SPD Tuning Service and Dragon Eyewear.
Lake Superior ProRally will air several times internationally on Speedvision, beginning Nov 13 at 8:30 p.m. (Eastern).
