Bangor, Maine, USA -- Last Ditch Racing, a Maine based performance rally team is set to participate in the Rally of the Tall Pines, the final round of the Canadian Association of Rallysport Championship season. Held in Bancroft Ontario, the event features cold temperatures and often slick road conditions.
The 2003 edition of the event saw the team find the first ditch, putting their Impreza WRX into the woods shortly after starting the first stage. Said driver John Cassidy, "We learned a hard lesson about running the wrong tires for the conditions and were lucky we didn't damage the car or ourselves more."
The team has had an outstanding 2004 season, and is currently sitting third in the the Open Class and 8th overall in the championship. The team also sits 4th overall in the North American Rally Championship.
"We've been very consistent and have spent the season improving our teamwork, my driving and the car," said Cassidy. Our goal for 2004 was to be a top 10 team in the Canadian Championship and we've exceeded all our expectations." Cassidy credits the team's results to the close partnership that he and co-driver Dave Getchell share as well as the quality of the LDR crew. "Dave and I work together extremely well in and out of the car. Our partnership and the high quality of the LDR crew have enabled us to achieve a level of performance we wouldn't have thought possible just a few short years ago."
The team will be featured during a Maine PBS program airing 11/18 at 20:30 called, "Made in Maine." The producers contacted the team prior to this years' Maine Forest Rally and asked if they could film the teams' exploits. The show will feature other forms of motorsport in Maine as well.
The team plans to campaign the 2005 CARS championship. "Although we're confident that Rally America will continue to sanction events in the US, our hearts are in Canada. The organization, competitors and fans are all top notch!"
The teams' next event will be the Rallye Perce-Neige Maniwaki Feb 4-6 in Quebec.
