Hudsonville, Michigan -- The SCCA 2000 ProRally season was an interesting one for Sierra RallySports team members Colin McCleery and Jeff Secor. It all started off with a bang at SnoDrift ProRally in Michigan. The team premiered their new car and, thanks to Nokian Tires, had an outstanding event, finishing 4th overall in the first ClubRally.
In May the team traveled to Minnesota for the Headwaters ClubRally, and were setting some breathtaking times and running in the top 10 overall, until a "off" at an unmarked corner dropped them to 19th overall.
In July the team competed in the Maine Summer Forest Rally. After destroying three wheels on a particularly hard landing on the first day, repairs were made and the Team made up 30 positions on the second day to finish 34th overall.
In August Colin piloted the #555 Ford Sierra to 1st in class in a non-SCCA sponsored Rallycross, held in Clarksville, Michigan.
Sierra RallySports suffered the first DNF in over three years at the Magnum Opus ClubRally in September. At the end of October Colin and Jeff entered a long favored and the final event of the SCCA ProRally season, the Lake Superior ProRally, formally known as "Press on Regardless". After an excellent start on the rallies first two stages the car suddenly left the team with a gearbox full of neutrals. Colin and Jeff assisted other teams for the remainder of the weekend.
November provided one last opportunity to run the car in 2000, again at a non-SCCA Rallycross held this time in Byron Center, Michigan. With a new gearbox installed, Colin easily won his class, a true testament to the tires ability, as the course was covered with 10" of heavy wet snow over very soft mud. In the yearly wrap up, Colin finished fourth, and Jeff Third in the Central Division of the SCCA's Club Rally championship
The team is currently making plans for the 2001 season that begins the last weekend in January with the SnoDrift ProRally based in Atlanta, Michigan. The team's Volkswagen Gti has all new suspension for that rally, and the team is planning on a few more modifications in effort to improve on last years fine performance.
Sierra RallySports would like to extend a thank you to Nokian Tires for providing an excellent product. Nokian Tires can be reached at www.nokiantyreinc.com. To AutoSports Unlimited www.autosportsunlimited.com for their assistance in preparation of the team's Volkswagen Gti, and Dykstra Auto Service in Hudsonville, for all of their help in keeping our cars on the road.
