LDR Slides Into Top 5 at Challenge Sur Glace!

Bangor, Maine, USA -- Maine based performance rally team Last Ditch Racing brought home 5th place in both days of competed in the recent Challenge Sur Glace, a round of the European based Andros Trophy ice racing championship run on the Circuit Bertrand-Fabi in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada.

2005 saw performance rally cars invited to compete for the first time. The Last Ditch Racing crew, consisting of driver John Cassidy and co-driver Dave Getchell were in good company with the field consisting of 2004 North American Champion Pat Richard, Canadian Motorsport hall-of-famer Jean-Paul Perusse, low grip expert Sylvain Erickson, recent Rally of the Tall Pines winner Antoine L'estage, and naturally aspirated Impreza hot shoe Randy Zimmer.

The event saw teams run on spec Continental street ice tires fitted with street studs on the ultimate low-grip The teams were faced with a two separate learning curves, learning the track and learning how to minimize their elapsed time around it. Randy Zimmer proved to be the quickest around the track, showing that experience made up for a lack of power on the slick surface.

Teams struggled with their tires through the weekend, some loosing many studs as they tried to get the power to the ground. The banks of ice around the track took their toll on the cars, with many cars sporting rearranged bodywork and missing lighting at all corners. Cassidy and Getchell drove a tidy and consistent event and emerged relatively unscathed, ready for the second round of the 2005 CARS championship, the Rocky Mountain Rally in Calgary Alberta, Canada. They look forward to returning to Sherbrooke in 2006.
