Bangor, Maine, USA -- Last Ditch Racing, Maine's premiere performance rally team hit their stride at The Rocky Mountain Rally in Calgary, Alberta Canada this past weekend. The team took second place overall, first in Open class as well as chalking up their first stage win in a championship event.
Starting 10th on the road on Friday, the team quickly climbed to fourth overall after the first two stages. After early leaders Antoine Lestage and Norm Leblanc crashed out of the rally on Special Stage 3 in dramatic fashion, Driver John Cassidy and Co-driver Dave Getchell inherited second place behind leaders Peter Thomson and Rod Hendricksen.
The team displayed their trademark consistency, combined with a newfound pace, throughout the fast event, keeping in touch with Thomson and keeping the following pack at bay. With many fast teams on the hunt on Saturday, Cassidy knew he'd have to continue to push hard and stay out of trouble. "Dave and I knew we had the pace to stay close with Peter and Rod, and we were confident in the car. It was simply a matter of having a clean and tidy run. Finishing an event is something we're good at and we've learned how to look after the car in order to make that happen."
The team recently tuned their car with the help of 2005 team partner F1-Dyno and installed a quick ratio steering rack from Rev-Lab. "The improvements to the car have been progressive and significant over the past season," said Cassidy. "We do all our own work here at the LDR shop and still have performance potential we haven't tapped yet. We have plans to continually develop the car over the rest of the season."
The team wishes to extend sincere thanks to their crew for a support and preparation prior to, and at the event. Said Cassidy, "The team lifted Dave and I on their shoulders so that we could perform at our best so far from home. Our results and the excitement from this weekend are shared by all on the team and our families who have seen us work so hard."
Special thanks go to Steve Carrick and Bruce Webster for driving nearly 3,000 miles from the East Coast to Calgary and back. Special thanks to Andrew Harvey for his wonderful eye and photography.
The team's next event will be the Rallye Baie Des Chaleurs in Quebec June 30-July 2, 2005.
Last Ditch Racing would like to thank their 2005 team partners for their support!
