Bangor, Maine, USA -- Maine's Last Ditch Racing is teaming with LaChute Performance, Quebec's premier Subaru performance shop for the upcoming Rallye Defi Sainte-Agathe September 9-10. The team will be driving Lachute Performances' 2002 WRX rally car in Open Class spec in hopes of maintaining their second place in the Canadian Rally Championship.
The team has been regrouping since their damaging crash at the recent Maine Forest Rally. After moving from 18th to ninth place on Friday, the team found a rock hiding in some raspberry bushes on a, "don't cut," corner, leading to their first DNF in two years. Damage to the car's unibody was significant enough that the car could not be repaired.
Said driver John Cassidy, "It's been a difficult time for the team. Like most teams, we run on a very tight budget and a crash like we had at Maine is a worst case scenario. We are very appreciative for LaChute's offer of partnership in our time of need. We're continuing to weigh our options for moving forward while trying to find a way to finish the season in a competitive manner."
Cassidy and co-driver Dave Getchell are both excited and a bit apprehensive as the event approaches. "We'll be in a new car, but at an event we know well. Although we'll be running the car in Open Class, it won't have the pace of some of the other Open Class cars, so we'll have to push very hard in order to place well," said Cassidy.
The team has enjoyed a long relationship with LaChute Performance, the company having done some component work in the past on the team's late car, T-2. The team has also enjoyed a close relationship with LaChute's P-4 Championship team of Julien and Marie-Eve Pilon. "We've always admired Julien and Marie-Eve's achievements and are excited to part of the LaChute team for this event!"
