Rocket Rally Racing marks second anniversary this weekend
Hopes to celebrate it with a class win

VANCOUVER, BC -- Rocket Rally Racing will be racing in the Rocky Mountain Rally this weekend, trying to gain some ground in its Production class. The Rocky Mountain Rally will be held May 25 and 26, on closed forest roads southwest of Calgary, Alberta.

"The fast and twisty roads of Rocky make for a great event, with dynamic road surface changes. The conditions usually range from snow and mud to high heat and dust, so we are coming prepared for everything," said Patrick Richard, Rocket Rally Driver.

Rocky Mountain Rally is round four of the Subaru Canadian Rally Championship presented by Yokohama. Richard and co-driver Ian McCurdy hope to win this event in their class, P4. P4, which has replaced Production GT, is the top class for production-based cars, typically consisting of high-horsepower, turbo-charged, all-wheel drive cars. At last weekend's Bighorn Rally, transmission problems stopped the team from finishing the event, but the Subaru Canada Rally Team still had two cars on the podium, with P4 teammates John and Clarke Paynter finishing top in class and third overall, and Tom McGeer taking the overall win. Rocket Rally Racing now sits second in its class, behind the Paynters.

The weekend's event marks the team's second anniversary in performance rally. Things have changed quite a bit in that time. Back in 1999, Richard and McCurdy drove to the event from Vancouver and then raced in Richard's personal Subaru Impreza, which still had its roof racks and stereo intact. Falling in love with the sport right away, the pair quickly set to work learning as much as they could about rallying. Many blown tires and great adventures later, the team is now part of the Subaru Canada Rally Team and is driving a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX. Rocket Rally Racing and the Subaru Canada Rally Team is also supported by OMP, DMS Shock Absorbers and Globalstar Communications.
