VANCOUVER, BC -- Rocket Rally Racing hopes to continue its recent string of strong finishes across the border in the U.S., as it enters the Maine Forest Summer Rally this weekend. The event, near Rumford, Maine, is round six of the 2001 SCCA ProRally Championship. Rocket Rally Racing has placed second overall in its last two rally events, in Canada.
The reigning 2000 North American Production GT champions will be driving a Production-class 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX, prepared by Subaru Canada, marking the debut of the car in a U.S. rally. The team will be joined at the event by Subaru Canada teammates Tom McGeer and Mark Williams.
"We believe this car can surprise a lot of people, even in stock form," said Patrick Richard, Rocket Rally Driver.
"Although this car has less horsepower than the large field of Open class and Group N cars, we hope we can continue to fight for overall placings and be in the Top 10 near the finish. But we're in for quite a fight. There are 121 cars registered. This is one of the strongest fields ever in recent North American rally history, with the field including several Canadian and American past national champions, previous dominators in North American Rally and the current series leaders in both the SCCA ProRally series and the Canadian Subaru Rally Championship."
"We haven't finished the Maine event before, so we are keen to stay clean and make it through the first night without taking any major risks," said Rocket Rally Navigator Ian McCurdy.
Rocket Rally Racing and the Subaru Canada Rally Team are supported by OMP, DMS Shock Absorbers and Globalstar Communications.
All SCCA ProRally events are televised internationally on Speedvision. Check your local listings for details.
