PALMDALE, California, USA -- David Higgins took first place honors in the Rim of the World Rally, arguably the toughest in the series, marking his third consecutive win in the AV Sport Subaru. David, and new co-driver Daniel Barritt, finished with a 1 minute and 13 second lead over brother Mark Higgins in the Hyundai Tiburon. Through the massive amounts of dust and extremely rough road conditions, the AV Sport Subaru held up beautifully and is a testament to the hard work of the AV Sport crew and David’s remarkable driving skills.
When asked about the win, a delighted Higgins replied, "Fantastic! These three wins have given us an excellent start to the Championship and I can’t wait for the next rally to come. This was the toughest event so far, but the AV Sport car was more than up to the job."
"This result should show that we are serious contenders for the ProRally Series this year," remarked team boss Andy Brown. "It is a great achievement for the AV Sport team to win three events in a row when we are competing against the manufacturer’s teams."
The win solidifies David’s top position in the Driver’s Championship with an unofficial point total of 67, giving him a significant lead over brother Mark Higgins (55). "It feels fantastic to be in this position in the Championship," commented David. "We stuck to our plan for the event and were able to run at our own pace." The Rim of the World Rally will be televised on SpeedChannel, July 11 (check local listings for time). Next up is the Susquehannock Trail ProRally (STPR) in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, June 1-2.
