Widget Codriver Interviewed on KTIE Radio
Hear the Interview on the Air and on the Web

North Hollywood, California -- John Dillon, codriver for the Widget Rally Team, will be the featured guest this Sunday night, 18 April 2004, on KTIE 590 AM, a radio station based in the Los Angeles/Pasadena area that reaches a world wide audience via the internet. The show is called The Speed Scene, a weekly program dedicated to motorsports and broadcast both via KTIE and on the web at www.SpeedSceneRacing.com.

The Speed Scene reaches 1.3 million listeners throughout North America and around the world. In their first year they produced fifty half-hour-long programs and are expanding in 2004 to full one-hour broadcasts. The Speed Scene is the only radio broadcast dedicated to sportsman racers like the Widget Rally Team. The program's producers also host a drag racing show that reaches over five million listeners.

Dillon's interview was a follow-up to an interview conducted last December with Leon Styles, the team's principal driver. You can hear both of these interviews by visiting the Speed Scene's archive page and selecting the 4/18/2004 broadcast (for John's interview) or the 12/20/2003 broadcast (for Leon's interview). Dillon's interview starts in the second half of the program while Leon's begins much earlier.

While the December broadcast focused on the driving side of the equation, the codriver interview focused on the logistics and challenges of navigating at high speed, often at night, and occasionally in inclement weather. The hosts of Speed Scene, Scott "Lucky" Hudson and Bruce Barker, also described the in-car video footage they'd seen and how impressive it was that people could race sideways up a mountain like Pike's Peak. After watching the video, Hudson announced "Leon has invited me to go for a test ride with him sometime, but I'm not sure I'm ready for that! I can't imagine being in a race car without hanging onto the steering wheel!"

"John's enthusiasm for the sport came through clearly on the broadcast," reported Barker. "I think our listeners gained an appreciation for the skills required in rally racing." Hudson invited Dillon to plug some of his sponsors as well. The Widget Team couldn't compete on a national level without the help of the many companies featured on the team's car and web site so the codriver was all too happy to oblige.

Perforce Software (www.perforce.com) provides financial support to the Widget Rally Team. The team is also supported by 7-24 AirX (www.7-24airx.com), a domestic and international trucking and air cargo company; Tombstone Paintball Park (www.tombstonepaintball.com); and Worr Games (www.worr.com), manufacturers of tournament-quality paintball guns. The team insists on brakes by Porterfield Enterprises (www.porterfield-brakes.com) and utilizes the web services of Shults Dot Com (www.shults.com) for its internet needs.

The Widget Team's next race, the Oregon Trail Rally headquartered in Hillsboro, Oregon, takes place April 23rd - 25th. Two weeks after that they'll return to their home turf for the Subaru Rim of the World Rally in Lancaster, CA before heading east to events in Pennsylvania, Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, and Michigan. Their season concludes with the Ramada Express International Rally which takes place in December in and around the Grand Canyon.
