Last Ditch Rally team driver John Cassidy will sport a new look at the Regional Rally Championships at the 100 Acre Wood Rally this weekend in Salem, Missouri.

Luke Dobie of Luke Dobie Designs in Massachusetts contacted Cassidy recently about the possibility of custom painting his rally race helmet. In partnership with California based graphic designer Craig Woida, the three came up with a design and Luke set to work to get the helmet done in time for the team's departure from Maine.

The main design element is a variation of the Cassidy family crest. Cassidy, a fourth generation Irish-American from Bangor, Maine is proud to link the present and the past. "We're proud of our ancestry, and it was really great that Craig was able to come up with a vision and Luke could make it all happen." The crest incorporates the car graphic from the Last Ditch Racing logo, as well as Cassidy's blood type.

The visor has Cassidy's nickname, "JOMO," on the visor.

On the rear of the helmet is a variation of the Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate logo, which Cassidy practices with his son, John. I started to study Matsumura Shorin-Ryu Karate about a year ago, and it's been a fantastic journey. The standard logo is a left hand holding Kobudo, but I came up with the idea of the hand gripping a rally steering wheel instead.

Said Cassidy, "Custom painted helmets are rare outside the factory teams, and I really appreciate the support and effort from Luke and Craig. Craig developed our team logo many years ago and helped brand the team. Luke's talent with design and paint allowed him to really bring a fresh look to my dome for 2010!"
