NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Two cars have been entered by Eurosport Manhattan Rallying in the upcoming 2002 Sandblast I&II club rallies. Sandblast takes place on January 12th 2002 in the South Carolina forests surrounding the town of Patrick and is sanctioned by the Southeast Region of the SCCA. The first crew entered is Andrew Hadjiminas with co-driver Luis Figueiredo in the teams Open class Subaru Impreza. Andrew and Luis will be looking to start the season with a strong result. "Our target is to begin accumulating points towards the championship as well as improving our overall performance" commented Andrew. The team has been working all winter on improving several components on the car. A new engine specification will be used for the first time and should help Andrew and Luis' chances of a top finish.
The second crew will be Tony Birbilis and Co-driver Jose M. Vicente. Tony also begins the new year with several improvements to his Ford Escort RS Coswoth. The team has upgraded the car to Open class from its original Group N specification, so Tony will need some time to familiarize himself with the fastest class. Once again this year, Tony's main goal is to keep improving his driving and go one better in his championship results. In the 2001 season, Tony finished 8th out of 29 drivers in the championship in only his first year of competition. Tony's 2001 results also netted Jose Vicente a 7th place co-driver championship finish out of a total 42 co-driver's.
