Minneapolis, Minn. -- The sideways excitement of American performance rallying will reach a new audience on OLN this fall. Coverage of the eight-round 2005 Rally America Championship will take viewers to the heart of riveting motorsport competition in the toughest, most challenging terrain this country has to offer.
OLN's telecast will capture the heart-thumping thrills as elite drivers test the limits at high speed, from riding the edge along the twisting, narrow route up Colorado's famed Pikes Peak to dodging trees on the icy forest roads of northern Michigan. "The world's most extreme motorsport is a perfect fit for OLN," says Rally America spokesman J.B. Niday. "We know that rally will be right at home with the undisputed leader in outdoor adventure and action sports television."
The high-octane series features plenty of homegrown talent including motorcross champion and X-Games star Travis Pastrana and international challengers like Sweden's former World Rally Champion Stig Blomqvist. Defending U.S. Champion, Patrick Richard, a former competitive snowboarder from Canada, will have to work hard to hold on to his title. "This isn't just any car race," says Niday. "Rally takes drivers and their cars into unbelievably challenging terrain -- and they eat it up at top speed."
Airing in eight consecutive weeks beginning in October 2005, the new program will capture viewers and leave them wanting more. A year-in-review show will cap the successful season. Noted motorsports production company TV2Go will produce the shows in cooperation with New York-based M360.
OLN is the leader in outdoor adventure and action sports television. Now in more than 62 million homes, OLN is the home of best-in-class events like The Tour de France, The Gravity Games, Professional Bull Riders (PBR), USSA Skiing and the Boston Marathon. The Network offers exclusive programming in four primary areas: Outdoor Adventure, Action Sports, Field Sports and Bulls & Rodeo. OLN is distributed via cable systems and satellite operators throughout the continental United States and Hawaii.
The Rally America, Inc., based in Minneapolis, Minn., holds the sanctioning and marketing rights to the Rally America Championship.
