Co-Driver Champion Michael Fennell; 1998 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV

Additional news interest:

The Maine Forest ProRally is substantially revised this year, using a
number of new roads, and no 'out and back' stages, which should improve
the flow of cars considerably. The popular Saturday in-town 'street stage'
has been replaced with a special Friday spectator stage at the Mexico
Recreational Park, which is approximately 3 miles north of Rumford on Rt
17, and will take place immediately following the Parc Expose.

Mitsubishi has confirmed that Rhys Millen, who's championship chances
were stalled by budget issues, is now fully funded to contest all of the
remaining events in 2001 for the automaker. This should come as good
news for Mitsubishi fans in the US, as Millen's new funding is rumored to be
tied to the possible launch of the Evo VII in this country next year.

The SCCA ProRally Overall Drivers Championship points battle is the
deepest and tightest in many years, if ever, with 10 teams having run
every or all-but-one event in the championship season thus far. This event,
however, will likely change the face of the championship points race.
With the absence of Richard Tuthill, Rhys Millen's renewed effort, Mark
Lovell's unproven all-new car, Maine's status as a strong event for champion Paul
Choiniere (six wins at Maine), and consistent podium finisher Seamus
Burke and Frank Cunningham in top form, every stage in this grueling
all-daytime rally will be flat-out sprint rally competition at its most intense
level.

Press Credentials, Visuals, Interviews & Media information:
Event Press/Photo credentials will be available at registration on
Thursday evening and Friday. Access to press-only photo and restricted areas
defined by the event organizer will require a press pass. Credentials are
available only to members of the working press. Identification required.

select press-only viewing areas along the rally course. Drivers,

Start Order & Late Breaking News:
SCCA ProRally Championship - Maine Forest

A new USA record of 120 cars are entered in the Maine Forest SCCA ProRally,
round #6 in the Championship. All three Championship manufacturers (Hyundai,
Subaru and Mitsubishi) are represented, featuring the hugely successful
Hyundai Tiburons and Elantras, over a dozen Mitsubishi Lancers, and the debut
of several new Subaru Imprezas, in FIA Group N and several SCCA specification
categories. The two-day event will be held on privately owned lumber company
roads in the area west of Rumford. The Rally starts Friday afternoon, 27
July at 3:00 PM EST in downtown Rumford.

Selected late entries, news (driver/co-driver):

Noel Lawler, the 1999 series overall champion reunites this weekend with
long-time co-driver, (and 1999 series co-driver champion) Charles Bradley,
who took some mid-season time off to concentrate on his new business venture
in Atlanta, GA. With that successfully underway, Bradley will be back in the
Hyundai co-drivers seat for the balance of the season.

Maine Forest marks the first time this season that the Canadian Subaru
works team will cross the border, and contest for the overall win against
their American counterparts. Featuring a two-car squad similar to the
Prodrive prepped US team, the Canadians will be entered in the Open class
(McGeer/Williams) and the Production GT class (Richard/McCurdy) Last year,
this duo experienced ultimate thrills and despair, as Richard was sidelined
at the start with transmission woes, and McGeer drove to a 2nd place finish,
only to lose it over a vehicle servicing infraction.

Also experiencing a reunion are Garen Shrader and Michael Fennell, who
drove together for the first time at this event last year, but have had a
challenging 2001 season. Shrader, out since the March Cherokee Trail event,
will be in his SCCA Open Class Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV.

Seamus Burke and Frank Cunningham have a very favorable 2nd car on the
road starting position, and are clearly in contention for a top overall
finish. The only team to stand on the podium at every event of the season,
the duo have steadily been building on their speed all year, and the
reliability of their TAD Motorsports prepared Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI has
been top notch. With the favorable starting position, and Mark Lovell's
completely unproven new Subaru WRX making its debut, this could be Burke's
biggest weekend of the year.

The start order, due to the huge size of the field, has been condensed
down to the top 50 teams for this release. The complete listing, with up to
the minute updates, is available at the Maine Forest website address shown
below.

SCCA ProRally Championship - Round #6 - Maine ForestLeg One Results, Key
Notes

Mitsubishi and Hyundai share top three positions - McGeer out

Rumford, Maine - Under mostly sunny skies with perfect mid-summer
temperatures, the largest field to ever start an SCCA ProRally Championship
event in the 28-year history of the series began the 13th running of the
Maine Forest Rally this afternoon. The series overall drivers championship
and several class points battles are the closest in years, and the depth of
the field may be the best ever. Today's action started out with a wide-open
˝ mile special stage for the spectators, with an unusual prize for the
fastest driver - a reseeding to be first on the road for the rest of the
afternoon's rallying.

Key Notes & Quotes:

Subaru is having a 'character building' Day One, with a rarely seen fleet
of four nearly identically painted works backed entries (two American, two
Canadian) suffering a broad array of woes, some terminal. Tom McGeer
suffered the worst of it, retiring partway through SS3 with a lower control
arm failure sending him off into the woods. Teammate Patrick Richard slid
into a rock on the same stage, and mangled his right rear suspension, but was
able to continue, and preserve his lead in PGT. Mark Lovell, debuting the US
squads all new Open class car is having some minor teething problems with
turbo boost, and Karl Scheible suffered a violent rear tire puncture in his
Group N car that altered the coachwork considerably - but was able to
continue to the finish, but lost several positions.

In the Mitsubishi and Hyundai camps, Seamus Burke and Frank Cunningham
are having yet another brilliant weekend in their Lancer, leading the charge
over Noel Lawler's Hyundai by a mere 2 hundredths of a second. Rhys Millen,
in his very recently renewed championship bid for Mitsubishi, is having some
minor overheating problems, but is maintaining a good 13th overall position.
Paul Choiniere and Jeff Becker, had a good day as well, placing their Hyundai
Tiburon just three tenths of a second behind teammate Lawler and Charles
Bradley. This is the Day One best finish of the season for the Hyundai team.

Over 15 cars have retired from the event at the conclusion of Day One.
The final stage of the days rallying is one of the most grueling of the
season, with many punctures and suspension failures as lead causes of
retirements. The roads for Day Two are considerably smoother, and also
feature some of the longest stages in US rallying - up to 20 miles in length.

A crowd estimated at 2500 witnessed the short half-mile first stage that
was held in the neighboring town of Mexico's recreation field. The course
consisted of dirt and gravel that began in a wooded area before making its
way around two softball fields. This is the first time the course was used,
and replaced the very popular "Rumford Street Stage" that has been presented
for several years.

The top-eight FIA seed drivers were scored by a new state-of-the-art
TAG-Heuer timing equipment with specially developed software used locally by
the U.S. Olympic cross country ski team. The system, which is able to time
to the thousandth of a second, was used here as a preliminary test before its
use in the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.

The Subaru WRX of Patrick Richard is leading the Mitsubishi of Lauchlin
O'Sullivan by .99 of a minute in the Production GT class, despite significant
damage to the right rear suspension incurred partway through SS3. 2000 Maine
Forest Gr 5 winner Mark Utecht is in a solid third place in his Mitsubishi.

In Group 5, California's Carl Jardevall with Washington state's Amity
Trowbridge is tied with Andrew Havas and are in 17th position overall. The
Brian Hourt/Drew Ritchie Acura trails by .28 of a minute.

Chris Havas is leading Group 2 by .35 of a minute over fellow Volkswagen
driver Richard Pilczuk, with Padraig Purcell's unique and quick Vauxhall in
third.

Noted Subaru's Opoen class driver Mark Lovell: "These roads remind me of
the Network Q Rally." Fellow Briton Guy Anderson, making his US performance
rally debut this weekend in fine style, leading the Production class in an
Acura Integra, voiced similar sentiments.

SCCA ProRally Championship - Round #6 - Maine Forest
Final Results, Key Notes
Burke/Cunningham Finally First - Choiniere back in top form

Rumford, Maine - Enduring sprint race conditions and thick choking dust, one
of the most fiercely contested SCCA ProRally Championship events in the
history of the sport in the US was won today by a most deserving team of
Seamus Burke and Frank Cunningham. Piloting their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI
smoothly the entire event, their nearly flawless drive allowed the pair to
seize the lead in SS3 yesterday, allowing them to run clear roads the entire
day, while everyone else had to deal with his dust.
Key Notes & Quotes:

Subaru's difficult Day One didn't get much better early in Day Two, as
the team dealt with a fuel contamination problem in both Karl Scheible's
Group N car and Mark Lovell's brand new Open class car. "Something occurred
between the fuel drums and the fuel tank - and we don't know what it was"
expressed a dismayed Ed Bentley of Prodrive. Art Brown, Technical Operations
Director for Sunoco Race Fuels, the official fuel of the Championship, was
on-site, and is returning to the company's headquarters with several of the
team's clogged fuel filters for analysis. No other team was affected.

Mark Lovell and Steve Turvey made a daring comeback late in the day,
taking advantage of a now perfectly running Impreza, and a unique rule at
this rally that allows entrants to start a special stage late to effectively
create a 'dust minute' with minimal penalty. Lovell took a one-minute
penalty at the start of SS8, and made maximum use of the cleaner air, making
up much more than a minute - posting the fastest stage time of the day and
gaining back several precious positions - and putting the pair into third
place overall.

Hyundai is clearly back in top form after a challenging first half of the
season. Choiniere's Tiburon ran faultlessly throughout the event, his pace
slowed only by the prodigious dust produced by Burke. Noel Lawler and
Charles Bradley nearly earned their first finish of the season, and were
having a brilliant run, winning SS3 outright, until suffering a massive
blowout in SS4 that removed the entire right front fender and damaged their
front suspension. Lawler soldiered on through SS6.

Rhys Millen's Day Two steadily improved, but he remained hampered by
manageable overheating problems that required him to dial the boost back on
his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6.5. Millen managed a respectable 18th place
overall finish, and remains committed to finishing the season.

Canadian and US Production GT Champion Patrick Richard had an excellent
day, recovering fully from the suspension damage of Day One, finishing 6th
overall and winning the class with a considerable 8 minute margin over his
nearest competitors, Mark Utecht and Brenda Lewis.

In Group 5, California's Carl Jardevall with his rarely seen on the east
coast crowd pleasing "school bus" Volvo 740 narrowly lost to Bryan Hourt's
Acura in one of the closest battles of the day, just 6 hundredths of a second
apart.

Chris Havas led Group 2 from the start in his VW Golf and extended a
massive lead, besting one of the largest classes in the event by nearly six
and a half minutes over fellow VW Golf driver John Rahill.

Guy Anderson's US Rally debut went very well, winning Production class by
a healthy margin as well, and finishing 22nd overall.

The Overall Driver's Championship, by virtue of Burke's 1st place finish,
has become even more tightly wound than before, and Paul Choiniere is back in
the hunt. The unofficial totals are now: Lovell 99, Burke 95, Choiniere 56,
Scheible 52 and Tuthill 41.

The Manufacturers Championship took an interesting turn at Maine Forest,
with Hyundai, despite its best showing in several events, slipping back
another notch to third place in the overall standings. The unofficial
results are: Subaru 99, Mitsubishi 92, and Hyundai 91, making this the
tightest overall manufacturers championship points race in the history of the
championship. In the Group N manufacturers championship, Subaru continues
its runaway success, with Ramana Lagemann's podium finish extending the
company's lead over its global rallying rival Mitsubishi 120 to 45.
